Camp

Posted by Ann Albertson on May 20, 2019 in Class News |

Please send your camping student at the normal school start time tomorrow morning. We typically start loading our supplies at 9 a.m. Depending how long that takes, we will leave shortly after all things are loaded.

As I shared with the students today regarding the weather, packing/dressing in layers is probably the best idea. (It is typically 10 degrees cooler out there, so shorts might not a good idea.) The extended forecast looks like temperatures will be in the 60s during the day and very brisk (50s) in the evening. Thursday shows the temperature warming up to 80, but we will be back home by then.

If your child brings a cell phone, please put it in a plastic baggie labeled with their name, and give it to me tomorrow morning. They will be able to phone you on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. (I’m not sure of the time.)

Please be ready to pick your camper up from Howard around noon on Thursday.

Camp: Medicine for Your Child and Donations

Posted by Ann Albertson on May 19, 2019 in Class News |

Camp Medicine: For any student needing ANY medicine, RX or over-the-counter – It needs to be in its original packaging (RX: RX container or box; over-the-counter medicine: entire packaging) and then placed in a clear baggie with your child’s name on it, and given to Ms. Albertson on Tuesday morning. Children/students cannot have it on them/keep it with them. It will be returned to you on Thursday. Thank you for your cooperation.

Camp Donations: Please send them in either tomorrow or Tuesday. (Please don’t forget.)

Parents of students going to camp:

Thank you to those responding to the camp note requesting donations. I had 5 parents responding to send in water. This much is not needed because we refill our bottles. However, we NEED Gatorade.

Additionally, we needed 4 dozen apples and only have 2 filled in.

Please email or message me to volunteer for one of the items needed below:

  • 12 apples
  • 12 apples
  • 12 Gatorade

Camp Donations Needed! (Also – packing list link given)

Posted by Ann Albertson on May 15, 2019 in Class News |

Parents of students going to camp: A note was sent home today requesting donations for camp (green apples, red apples, cases of water, cases of Gatorade).

Please write your name down next to an item that you are able to donate. Donations need to be sent in on Monday, May 20th. (I think the date on the note was incorrectly entered as the 21st)

A couple of students have asked for the camp packing list again.

Here it is: Camp Packing List

Thank you!

Teacher Appreciation, NWEA, & Mother’s Day

Posted by Ann Albertson on May 12, 2019 in Class News |

Thank you so very much for all the thoughtfulness and generosity for teacher appreciation. I love the bulletin board Mrs. Bronson designed with me as a “brain chef” to the students. The breakfasts, lunches, and treats were delicious and appreciated. Lastly, the gift cards are very generous and appreciated, too! This has been one of the most enjoyable school years out of my 27 year career. Thank you, so very much. I am very grateful to be teaching at Howard – it is an amazing community. I am extremely grateful for your support and kindness.

NWEA testing starts this week. Yes – I know, we just got finished with M-Step a couple of weeks ago. We have to get NWEA done this week (Math, Reading, Language, & Science) because of many students (and me) attending camp next week. I also realize many students are fasting because of Ramadan. Because of that, we will do most of our testing in the morning. Parents, please make sure students are well rested and ate breakfast (if possible). These scores are very important. The students have worked very hard this year – we want that growth to show.

Moms … Happy Mother’s Day! My daughter is cooking for me and my mom (her grandma), so I get a little rest from that. I have Social Studies and Math test to score and reports to write for Mrs. Lazar, so it’s not a complete day of rest for me. (No worries – you know how much I love Math – it’s great to see their progress with such a challenging math program!)

Tomorrow – River Rouge Water Festival

Posted by Ann Albertson on May 1, 2019 in Class News |

We are still attending the River Rouge Water Festival at UM-Dearborn no matter if there is rain or shine.

Please make sure your child dresses accordingly. We will be outside for some activities – keep in the mind the ground is saturated and muddy.

Please also make sure your child has a completely bagged lunch – there is no place to purchase anything. Additionally, please make sure it is in a plastic bag. (Paper bags will rip when they get wet.)

Parents who are chaperoning – please dress appropriately, too, and bring a bagged lunch for yourself as well. See you at 8:40 a.m.

Despite the weather forecast, it should be a fun learning experience!

UM Water Festival Field Trip – Thursday

Posted by Ann Albertson on April 30, 2019 in Class News |

Many permission slips were turned in today INCOMPLETE and were returned to the students. Please make sure they are filled in completely and returned by TOMORROW/Wednesday or your child will not be able to attend the field trip.

I will not be accepting any permission slips on Thursday morning as we leave immediately at the start of the school day.

Additionally, there are several students who come tardy to school daily. Your child needs to be here on time to not risk missing the field trip as we leave promptly.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for understanding.

Spring Fever Warning!

Posted by Ann Albertson on April 28, 2019 in Class News |

Parents – Many of the papers and worksheets I have been grading from the past few weeks are showing a decline in grades. Please remind your student that they need to keep working as hard as they can until the end of the school year.

For example in Language Arts, all of the mini-lessons on grammar, sentence structure, and writing skills should be coming together for their work, and showing their knowledge (not filled with mistakes we had lessons on). Additionally, when we are answering questions based on Social Studies reading, most answers should be found directly in the text – NOT created by the students. Lastly, they need to double check their work for quality – correct spelling (especially when the words are right there in the text), proper punctuation, and capitalization.

The students have learned a great deal this year, and – for the most part – have worked VERY hard. It would be extremely disappointing for their grades to decline now because of “Spring Fever.”

Thank you for your assistance and support with this.

M-Step

Posted by Ann Albertson on March 28, 2019 in Class News |

We start M-Step testing when we return from Spring Break. This letter was sent home with your student on Wednesday. Please review it. Please do not schedule appointments during the testing period, as it will cause your student to fall behind with our 5th grade content.
