- Yes – this is being called “Enrichment” because I cannot force you to do it. However … Just Do It! Many have worked very hard this year – why would you want to lose that now? DO the work PLEASE!
- Help parents – seriously help them – not just for 5 minutes, but throughout the day. Now is the time to pitch in as a family with many things: help folding laundry, help with washing dishes or emptying the dishwasher, help with prepping meals, help vacuuming, read to a sibling, etc. Show your parents you appreciate them!
- Read 30 minutes. Remember there are many books available online for you to read. Here are some sites I found: FunBrain: https://www.funbrain.com/books, Oxford Owl: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/welcome-back/for-home/reading-owl/find-a-book, Barnes and Noble: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/b/free-ebooks/nook-books/kids/_/N-ry0Z8qaZtu1, Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Kindle-Store-Childrens-eBooks/zgbs/digital-text/155009011, Story Line Online: https://www.storylineonline.net/library/, Mrs. P’s online learning: http://mrsp.com/
- Writing: please write some “Thank You” cards to health and medical professionals. I’m not sure how we can get these delivered yet, but please make 2-3 so we can have them ready to boost the spirits of those helping through this crisis
- Social Studies: a couple of worksheets will be posted in Google Classroom from Mr. Nussbaum. The first page is the reading passage, the second page is the questions.
- Math: Module 6 Lesson 4 video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7SZz8PtqkT0, Learn and Succeed problems from lesson 4, Zearn lesson 4

*Revised! The work is now being designated as “enrichment work.” I apologize for this confusion – we have gotten many emails and it’s difficult to keep up with all of the information and directives. I’m still strongly suggesting that your child keep up with the material. This will help them to maintain their growth and knowledge this year.
There are many of you that haven’t started on Zearn Module 6. If this is indicative of the other assignments that you should be doing, this is a BIG concern. The Superintendent has made this work mandatory. Start today or you will be further behind. Assignments for today will be posted shortly.
Last Post for Monday
- help parents … seriously! Clean up your room, help with meal prep and/or cleanup, help fold laundry, read to a younger sibling 🙂
- read 30 minutes … find a GREAT book to lose yourself in during this crazy, unprecedented time. I am rereading one of my favorite books, The Alchemist. I have read it at least ten times and each time I get more out of it. (Here is a synopsis on it in case you are interested: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18144590-the-alchemist)
- Tikki Tikki Tembo link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-GlLRQCu3U (I checked this book out of the Media Center last week. Some of you heard me when I said it was my favorite book in lower elementary. I hope you enjoy it.) I will make a post in Google c for your thoughts on it.
- Math: Module 6 Lesson 2 video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5NoKvhR2PA. Complete the Learn and Succeed problems, too. And don’t forget Zearn!
- Reading: “Treasures” book – Read the following story: “Grandma’s Tale” pages 50-51. There are several vocabulary words highlighted in the story: original, wring, advertisement, commenced, fireball, impress, elected, sauntered. Make sure you know their meanings because the story tomorrow will use them again. Focus ideas: Grandma knows about Davy Crockett. What American legends do you know about? Ask your parents if they know any? What are they known for? Here is more information on American legends: https://people.howstuffworks.com/9-legends-of-american-folklore.htm
- Social Studies: Print out the two papers in Google Classroom for S.S. today. Complete a triple venn diagram comparing and contrasting the three regions of the colonies.
Very sorry this was posted later than 10 a.m. today – I was busy posting the links to the “Online Learning …” too.
More Monday
I found this suggested schedule. It would be a great idea to have a routine you follow daily. (This is not a vacation or break from learning!)

Good morning! I hope everyone is doing well, all things considered.
This is not a great situation we are in, but let’s make the best of it. Remember to limit where you go, i.e. a store, because while you might not realize it you could unknowingly be impacting others. I have not gone out much myself because I assist with caring for my debilitated father. While I feel fine, I don’t want to be a carrier and take any germs to him unknowingly. Please be mindful of this and follow the warnings.
I made up a new heading for links in the right column titled “Online Learning During Extended Time Away from Howard.” I will be posting lots of great resources there. These are not assignments for you, however, they are highly recommended when you get bored, when you need to do something different, etc.
Remember this is stressful for everyone. While you might be happy to get time away from the classroom, for adults it could be very stressful. Help your parents as much as possible. Help your brothers and sisters. Be good. Be the good. Take care.

IMPORTANT: District Update!
Parents – if you haven’t already done so, please bring your child to Howard for their materials. As already posted, Howard IS “open” for students to come and gather their belongings and materials. Some ideas shared yesterday involved online learning. Students need their books and other items. Thank you
