Dear 5th grade families,

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, your student has the exciting opportunity to take part in a field trip that is only offered to each elementary school every 5 years.  It is called the Sculpture Initiative. More information to follow!

Our goal is that every 5th grade student at Howard Elementary will be able to take part in this exciting art experience this year!  However, we have had a few concerns with some of the choices some of our 5th grade students have made while on previous field trips and choices they are making in school.

In order for every child to participate, we need your support!  Please encourage and follow through with your student to adhere to these basic human considerations (see below) while at home, in public and at school!  These align with our PBIS culture and reinforcing them at home will only sweeten the time you spend with your child and help them to be successful outside of your home and into their future.

Encourage your child to be:

Respectful:  Listen carefully to all instructions for understanding, and follow the instructions.  No means no. One person should be talking at a time. Keep our bodies to ourselves. Treat others with peaceful kindness.  Respond mindfully.

Responsible:  Handling our own affairs.  Make the best decision for the occasion in terms of not causing a problem for themselves or anyone else.   Accept responsibility for actions, immediately. Be honest in all situations. Respond mindfully.

Safe:  Follow the rules and listen to and follow all instructions.  Take caution. Respond mindfully. Think before you act.

If any concerns arise with your child, or we are currently having concerns with your student, we will contact you directly either by phone, letter or the email you have provided the school to discuss how we can work as a team to assure that your child will be on this field trip respectfully, responsibly and safely for the best outcome to your child, your child’s classmates and the community.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Thomas
