5th Grade Camp

March 8, 2017

Dear Howard 5th Grade Parents,

As you know, 5th grade camp is just around the corner, and we are all very excited about this terrific opportunity for our students!  The camp experience will be filled with hands-on learning experiences that will create memories that will last a lifetime.  We value this learning opportunity, and will do everything that we can to make camp the best experience possible for our students!

Those of you who attended the camp meeting last week were able to meet with the camp staff who provided us with a wonderful presentation giving us detailed information about the camp facilities, activities, and safety procedures.  If you have any specific questions about camp, please contact your child’s classroom teacher for more information.

One thing that we learned from the camp staff is their very high level of emphasis on safety while facilitating a positive and fun learning experience for the students.  A discussion about safety expectations and procedures is part of the camp orientation process, and you as the parent/guardian should have a discussion about safety as well.

PBIS and Camp

Camp is designed to provide engaging and fun learning experiences within parameters that ensure our students are safe at all times. With this in mind, our students will need to follow directions and procedures as part of the expectations at camp.

In the meantime, if any student is showing a serious pattern of falling below our expectations at school, we will put proactive PBIS interventions in place to help the student overcome these challenges, because it is our goal to have all of our students attend camp!

Students who are not able to meet these expectations, may have restrictions placed on them or may not be able to attend camp at the discretion of  the principal.  Again, we will do all that we can to ensure a positive experience for all of our students at camp, and will continue to make it our goal that all 5th grade students are able to attend.  If you have any questions about this, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the principal.

Thank you,

Dan Blessing

Interim Principal, Howard Elementary School
