Message From Mr. Short

Afternoon Haigh Community,

Below are some updates for this week at Haigh. As a reminder this week and next week are both 4 day school weeks, due to the Holiday Weekend.  I will continue to provide updates about the end of this school year and plans for next year. Please continue to check the Haigh Website at https://haigh.dearbornschools.org/ for up to date information and news from Haigh.

5th Grade Promotion-We are planning to have an “Alumni Promotion Ceremony” for this year’s 5th graders in the Spring of 2021. This will be a fun event where our current 5th grade students will be able to come back to Haigh for a night dedicated to them. – Our Haigh PTA is  also planning to have 5th grade Promotion Lawn Signs for your students. We will be in communication for the delivery or pickup of these signs to honor your student 🙂
5th Grade information from BryantBryant Middle School 6th Grade Orientation Information  If you have a current 5th grader who will be attending Bryant Middle School in the fall of the 2020-21 school year, please go to the Bryant Middle School blog page to learn more about Bryant and the opportunities for your child.  After you have viewed the information, please have your child select two extended core classes using the embedded survey.  Students must use their District gmail account to complete the survey.  Here is a link to the post on the Bryant blog:  Bryant School Blog – 6th Grade Orientation

Grades K-1-2 will pick up using the Silvery Lane drop off lane. Grades 3-4-5 will pick up using the Coburn drop off lane. Parents please place a sign in your passenger window with the names of your student(s)(First Name, Last Name, Grade Level and Teacher. When you pull up to the grade level station, we will then place the brown bag of resources into your trunk and you will be all set 🙂  Returning Haigh Items-We will have bins set up for safety belts, classroom books, library books, etc..Please place items in a clear/plastic bag that is labeled with the classroom teacher’s name or library.  ***These items can be placed in your trunk and we will take out while placing your students brown bag of resources. ***Following these steps will keep everyone safe and healthy, thank you for your help and cooperation 🙂
Content Practice-We know that remote learning has its challenges and that the balance between work responsibilities, sharing technology, student work, and other family obligations can make each day difficult. We ask that you look at the assignments each week and do your best to have your students practice these activities (suggested content practice minutes are listed below). -Our classroom teachers will be providing recorded/live lessons, have office hours to answer questions, and will provide the essential skills that your student(s) need to practice during this time. Please continue to check your classroom and specials teachers’ blog, dojo, seesaw, remind, or google classroom each week for updated materials.- Please also do not hesitate to reach out for help with content, social and emotional needs, or if your family may need help with food. We are here to help our Haigh Community!

Overall, I hope that everyone has a wonderful EID and enjoys your upcoming  4 day weekend! Please also make sure that you are continuing to stay safe and keeping healthy. I hope that everyone has a great week!

Sincerely,

 Mr. Short
