Wayne County Sheriff Visits Room 4!

Greetings,

Today a Wayne County Sheriff visited our classroom. He is a friend of Tia’ s family. Officer Haidar answered questions about his job, his training and shared timely advice on the qualities of good citizenship. We really enjoyed his honesty, humor and eagerness to discuss civic responsibilities.

Here are two pictures. You might notice parachute material draped over the carpet area. This addition was constructed for our CAMP DAY tomorrow. Students are encouraged to bring sleeping bags, blankets, flashlights, lanterns, etc. We have a fun day planned to celebrate the end of reading month.

Many thanks for all you do!

sincerely,

Fourth Grade Camp Day -Wednesday, March 29!

Good Evening Everyone!

Today students brought home information about our first Student Council sponsored event. The fourth grade teachers and students are providing a “camp” like experience during the day on Wednesday. Students are encouraged to bring sleeping bags, pillows, flashlights, lanterns, etc. to help create a cozy camp space in our classroom. Students will be able to go in and out of all of the fourth grade classrooms to join friends from other rooms. Students will read, write and share stories. Also, teachers will coordinate two fun activities:one station will be making dream catchers and another station we will make s’mores -Mr.Short will help heat up our s’mores on his school grill. Finally, all students were challenged to create a game from a cardboard box. During our camp fun students will be able to play all of these very cool and fun student designed games. Sounds Fun, Right?

As always thanks for your help and support,

a. cronin

A little OUTDOOR fun!

Greetings!

We  got outside today for a little outdoor recess. Sunny skies were inspiring. Tomorrow we will have some time to work on two projects. The first one is a cardboard box challenge. Each fourth grade is working on creating games from cardboard boxes. So far in our class we have two board games, a mancala game made from an egg carton, a ring toss game made from recycled cardboard and paper plates, and a couple of throwing games. Some students have been working at home while others have used their free time to be creative.

The other project is MARKET DAY! Fourth grade MARKET DAY IS FRIDAY, MAY 5, FROM 12:30 until 3:00. I will be sending home more information in the near future. However, this is a BIG and very FUN event. Please set aside some time to join us on this Friday afternoon in May.

Tomorrow  students will be finalizing their market day company’s. Students create a company and produce products to sell  to our third grade and of course to YOU (family and friends are invited)!  So tomorrow students will be signing a contract with me to promise to do their best and to work with the students in their company for the next 6 weeks. Students can start bringing supplies to school if they like.

Thanks again for all of you support and cooperation!

sincerely,

a. cronin

Guest Reader!

Yasmeen’s mom was our guest reader today! We had so much fun listening to her story and then answer a few questions about Yasmeen.

Yasmeen will be performing on Sunday at Dearborn’s Performing Arts Center in a production of The Emperor’s  New Clothes. Tickets are only $5.00. I will be going to the three o’clock performance! I would love to see YOU there too!

Count Your Joys Instead of Your Woes, Count Your Friends Instead Of Your Foes…

That’s an Irish Proverb-Happy All Things Irish Today! I do count my JOYS, I have 24 in Room 4.   A wee tip of the hat to all of you for supporting SPIRIT WEEK! The students had lots of fun…especially today with “crazy hair day” combined with  a little Irish spirit. We also had two guest readers from Dearborn High School-one was a former Haigh  student, Nick Tafelski and the other Adam Dakroub, from River Oaks. These two DHS students are on the football team. They read and answered questions about school.

I also want to thank Connor’s mom and Jenna’s mom for bringing us a little treat this afternoon. The kids really liked the Shamrock Cookies and the nicely decorated juice boxes.

Enjoy the photographs!

Stay warm,

A. Cronin

Tomorrow students are encouraged to dress like a favorite book character. Also, tomorrow night Haigh School is hosting a fun literacy night. Families can spend from 5:30-6:30 at school and participate in three different activities-BINGO, JEOPARDY AND STORY TELLING. I think it will be a very fun family event. I hope to see you there!
