Reading Logs are due this Wednesday!

Good evening parents,

If  your student has been reading during the month of March their reading logs are due on Wednesday.

Thank you for supporting reading at home. Your student will earn more than a reading patch tag from your encouragement and interest in their reading.

Thank you for your support!

SPRING into SCIENCE!

Greetings Parents,

I hope all is well with all of you. It sure was a gorgeous day. I was thinking the backyard is a wonderful place to start thinking about our next unit in science-“living things”.  Did you know the first spring flowers are typically daffodils, dandelions, lilies, tulips, iris and lilacs -to name a few.  During Spring the Earth’s axis starts to tilt towards the sun. The days get longer and warmer. Many animals have babies and some, like bears, start to wake up and become active. While you are outside encourage your student to look around and notice how plants and animals are starting to change.  Our next unit in science students will extend their study of plants and animals by examining their needs, their adaptations for survival, their relationships, and their  connections to the organisms that lived in Earth’s past.  One of the overarching questions is how do organism survive and interact within the environment? We will be looking at the basic needs of plants and animals, food chains and food webs.

Start looking-all of this “science” is in our backyards!

I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday.  Here is a picture of some daffodils in my backyard.

sincerely,

“A Whole New World” Aladdin at Stout Middle School

Good Evening Parents!

I spent part of the afternoon at Stout Middle School watching rehearsals for their Spring production of Aladdin, Jr. I was so impressed with the student enthusiasm, the costumes, the sets and the leadership of the two directors-Jim Walters and Rashid Beydoun.

Our fourth grades will get to see the dress rehearsal on Thursday, April 20. I was able to arrange this since my sister, Lisa Cronin, who is the Foreign Language teacher at Stout, is involved in the production.  Two years ago we went to see SchoolHouse Rocks-it was Fabulous! Last year they did Hairspray which was also Fabulous!  I am writing this after seeing rehearsals for two numbers from Aladdin and can’t wait to see the final production!

If you are looking for a fun, family friendly event please consider this event.

Sincerely,

A. Cronin

Inventor of the week-Jasmine Tiba!

During our Camp day we had a chance to see and play many fun and creative games. In our class one game that really stood out was created by Jasmine. She made her own BINGO game from cardboard.

Some students in our class got a chance to play the game today. Here are a few photographs. You can see the amount of  detail in the game cards, tokens and the box used to keep the numbered balls.

Congratulations Jasmine!

April Showers Bring May Flowers…

Good Evening Parents!

I can not believe that tomorrow is March 31-the last day of this long month. We have just finished our third card marking and classes are beginning to practice for our final series of assessments: the NWEA and the M-STEP. Students will be using different practice sites to reinforce the concepts covered in these two tests. Also , in Technology, students will practice using all of the computer tools that are used during the test. After our Spring break the fifth graders will start the testing process. Fourth grade begins with the NWEA at the end of April and the M-Step after that.

I hope everyone has a wonderful aspiring break. Take care-stay healthy!

sincerely,

a. cronin

HAPPY CAMPERS!

Greetings Parents!

We had a fabulous day! Camp CRO–ECO-LA-ICKI was  filled with wonderful activities. We had scary stories around the camp fire (lanterns). We had home made games that were so much fun to play. We had arts and crafts-dream catchers. We made (and Mr. Short grilled) awesome s’mores.  WOW!  It really was a TERRIFIC day!  I took lots of photographs. Enjoy!
