Good Evening!
Fourth and fifth graders had the opportunity to apply the scientific method and display their findings after school today in our library. Our class was represented by Rayan, Tia, Jenna and Yasmeen. Our class will see all of the displays tomorrow. Congratulations to these four students for demonstrating their scientific curiosity!

We finished three NWEA tests. All students have completed the Reading, Language, and Science.
The math test will be next Monday and Tuesday. They will take this test with Mrs. Izbicki.
M-Step will start the week of May 15. Our special schedule will change for two weeks. We will have all our special classes in the afternoon. If you would like to donate a class snack that would be greatly appreciated. We will have planned stretch and snack breaks. Snacks could be sliced fruit, crackers, juice boxes, cheese sticks, etc. I will keep you posted as we get closer to these dates.
Hope to see you on Friday at our Market Day!

May Day!
HelloEveryone!
Tomorrow is May 1! It’s hard for me to realize our year together is almost over. It seems to have gone by so quickly.
May Day can be a seasonal celebration or a day to celebrate worker’s rights-or a little bit of both.
When I looked into the origins of May Day I wondered if it was related to the distress call, “mayday, mayday!” I guess the distress call comes from the French term m’aidez, which means ” help me.” Nothing wrong with a little French lesson to go along with the holiday’s history.
This first week in MAY will be busy-along with the rest of this month. This week we will start with the NWEA reading on Monday and Tuesday (Math NWEA will be next week), a science fair on Wednesday for those who chose to participate and we will end the week with MARKET DAY, on Friday from 12:30-3:00. We will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:30. We hope you can join us at some point to see all of the cool products students have created.
Sincerely, A. Cronin
We lose ourselves in books, we find ourselves there too.
Greetings Everyone!
Tomorrow is Independent Bookstore Day! These invaluable places are not just stores, they’re community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers. In a world of tweets and page less digital downloads, bookstores are NOT a dying anachronism. They are living, breathing organism that continue to grow and expand. I often frequent one independent bookstore in Oak Park called the BOOKBEAT. In celebration of this day I have chosen two outstanding students and readers to share with you their bounty of books that they have read this year . All books were purchased by me from the Bookbeat. Rayan and Yasmeen have read over 60 books each this year. Some of their favorites were Wonder, The Dollpeople, Please write in this Book, Out of My Mind, Savvy, When you Reach Me, to name a few…
Celebrate Reading! Celebrate Independence! Sincerely, A. Cronin
STRETCHY, GLITTERY, SCENTED, ORIGINAL SLIME!!!
Market Day company “All the Rage” show off handmade invitations to Market Day (picture on the left).
Meanwhile the race is on to create the best and most popular slime! Students have started making speeches, performing jingles, doing skits to advertise their new products. The third graders are super excited to visit all these stores and start shopping. We hope YOU can stop by too!
Sincerely,
a. cronin
NWEA SCIENCE Test Tomorrow Morning!
Greetings to All!
What a beautiful afternoon! I just wanted to let you know we will start NWEA testing tomorrow morning. In the afternoon we have a fun reward with our PBIS Carnival event. Our class will join the other fourth grades at 1:40 for an assortment of games.
Thank you for your continued support with Market Day supplies. Here are a few pictures of Mrs. Izbicki’s class working today on some of the finishing touches. Please join us next Friday, May 5 from 12:30 until 3:00. The least crowded time to come would be right around 12:30. Third graders will come to shop around 1:30. We will also have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:35.

MAKER FAIRE IN ROOM 4!
Greetings to All,
Today was a busy day! We started with an assembly to acknowledge EARTH DAY! Earth Day is tomorrow. Students were treated to a fun and educational presentation on the three R’s-reduce, reuse and recycle. However, the presenter ended with a fourth R as he played the famous song by Aretha Franklin-RESPECT! All of us need to RESPECT our planet and all the living things that call EARTH home.
Next, students worked on two projects throughout the day. One for Veterans-decorating trays and making cards for veterans at Detroit Veteran’s Hospital.
Then Market Day companies worked on either making products, writing speeches or commercials, and design posters for their stores. WOW!
I hope everyone has a great weekend with friends or family.
