FABULOUS FIELD TRIP!

Greetings Parents and Students!

Once again we had a fabulous field trip in Flat Rock at the Oakwood Nature Center! Many thanks to all the parents who were able to join us on this adventure. We had a blast canoeing, walking the trails, eating lunch together and learning about Michigan and French history. I took lots of pictures of all the action. I hope your student shares with you some of the highlights of our day.

ENJOY,

A. CRONIN

Stay Cool at School….It’s not easy….

Greetings Parents,

It is a very warm Monday here at Haigh School. Hopefully, it will not be so warm on Wednesday when we are on the river.

Please remember to have your student dress for the weather and for a lot of walking. I recommend hats, sun screen, bug spray and a couple bottles of water. Also, please pack lunches in a paper bag so it can easily be recycled.

If you plan on chaperoning please meet us in the school lobby at 9:00 Wednesday morning.

Stay cool,

A. Cronin

Meet the fourth grade team

Hello Parents,

The fourth grade teachers will be available to answer more specific questions on Wednesday morning , September 20, from 8:00 until 8:30. We will be in Mrs. Izbicki’s classroom. We will go over the fourth grade curriculum and discuss how we do the class rotations.

If you were not able to attend Open House and would like to meet everyone this is another opportunity to do that.

A couple reminders:

Movie Night is coming up in October. If you would like to

order hot dogs, pop and chips for this family event please

bring in your order by Next Friday. Everyone is welcome to

come to movie night- It is FREE. However, food is not.

Mr. Short will be grilling the halal hot dogs so place your

orders early!

Also, only a couple students have not turned in a

permission slip for our field trip to the Oakwood

Nature Center. This trip is next Wednesday, 9/27.

If you would like to join us there is still room on

the bus…but all adults must pay the ten dollars as well.

Open House Tonight! 6:00-7:30! See you there!

Greetings Parents,

I hope we have a chance to meet tonight.

Tonight parents will be able to sign up for a November conference time.

Also I would love to have a few parents sign up as room parents. Room parents help throughout the year with classroom parties, projects and special events.

Students will be able to escort you around the building. As most of you know this is a great opportunity to meet all the teachers, see classrooms, meet our principal, Mr. Short and enjoy the company of other parents from our neighborhood. PTA officers will also be here to answer questions and encourage your support. PTA will provide refreshments in the cafeteria later in the evening.

I hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

April Cronin

Fourth Grade Field Trip-a few photographs from last year’s fabulous trip!

Greetings Parents and Students!

All fourth grade students brought home a permission slip for our first field trip. My class will join Mrs.Izbicki’s class on Wednesday, September 27 for a full day of adventure and fun. The fourth grades have been on this trip for the last four years. We LOVE it! We will have about a 20 minute drive to the Oakwwod Nature Center near Flat Rock. The Nature Center includes outdoor trails and a large  building filled with exhibits and an eating area that looks out onto the river. Our program introduces students to the travels of French explorers who traveled this area by canoe to trade with the native Americans. The voyageur canoe seats about 20. All canoers wear life vests and each canoe trip includes six adults. The current is slow and the water is about waist deep. Students get to canoe about a half mile down the river and hear our tour guide explain why the French explored  this area. The program continues on shore with more hands on activities to help us better understand these explorers. We will eat our lunch at the center and be able to walk the trails during part of the day. We would love for parents to join us on this special field trip. Please email or phone with any specific questions or concerns.  Also, enjoy these photographs from last year’s trip.

sincerely,

a. cronin

HAPPY HALF DAY!

Greetings Parents and Students!

We had a very happy day! The students were smiling, sharing, laughing, talking, writing and exploring their new room. I was happy too!  The opportunity to meet and get to know a group of young, curious learners is always rewarding.

Also, many thanks for all the class supplies. I really appreciate your generosity.

We will start rotating classes next week. All fourth graders will need a supply box/pouch and five composition books. Each subject area requires a composition notebook. Students will take their supplies and notebook to Mrs.Izbicki for MATH and Mrs. Greco for SCIENCE. Students will also need a composition notebook for SOCIAL STUDIES, READING AND WRITING (those subjects will be taught by me).

Please stop by, call or email (cronina@dearbornschools.org) with any questions or concerns.

I am including a picture of my first first year at Haigh School. These are first graders in the picture. These first graders are now starting High School. My oh my, how time flies…

sincerely,

a. cronin

Welcome to 4th Grade!

Greetings new students and parents!

Mr. Short sent out an email earlier today to let everyone know the name of their new teacher.

I sure am looking forward to meeting all the new fourth graders and their parents next Tuesday. We will have a half day of school on Tuesday. All students will be dismissed at 11:45. Students will be bringing home information from the office, the school’s PTA and from me. We will have a full day on Wednesday. Special area classes like Art, Music, Gym and Technolgy will start on Thursday. I will send home a special schedule the following week. Please look in your student’s planner for up to date information in regards to special classes or special events.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. See you Tuesday!

Sincerely,

April Cronin
