Family history project-Poland, Iraq and Croatia!

Greetings Parents!

Many thanks for your support and cooperation with our fourth grade family history project. I have been so impressed with the work that students have done and the incredible stories that are being shared by  these students.

Today three students presented-Darin shared his family story about his great grandparents journey from Poland to escape the war between Poland and the Soviets. Diyar shared his family story about parents leaving Iraq to start a new life here in Michigan. Scott wrote about great grand parents coming from Croatia for more opportunities in America.

I am looking forward to hearing more family stories. Please join us if you can.

sincerely,

a. cronin

A COCKATIEL VISITS OUR CLASSROOM!

Fourth grader and our friend Zein, from Mrs. Izbicki’s class, brought his new bird to our class today. Zein prepared a report, brought in supplies that the bird needs, and allowed students to pet or hold the bird if they wanted to. Zein’s father also came along to help with the bird. It was a very fun event.

Thank you Zein for sharing this special part of your life!

Enjoy the photographs!

THREE GENERATIONS DISCUSS FAMILY TRADITIONS!

Greetings!

Today we were treated to a wonderful visit from a student’s grandmother and great grandmother!

Ellie invited part of her family to our class today to discuss her family’s journey ( on her mom’s side) from Sweden to America. It really was a wonderful experience for all. Students asked questions and found out about one family’s experience. Elli’s grandmom’s  also brought homemade “Swedish” cookies for all of us to try. Mr. Short also stopped by to enjoy this great opportunity. I hope more moms, dads, and grandparents are able to join their student on this journey of discovery.

sincerely,

a. cronin

Social Studies Family History Project

Greetings to All!

All students brought home information regarding this family history project. The fourth graders are learning about immigration in American history. All students are expected to research and then write a five paragraph paper on the history of their family. They essentially are asking and answering this question: Where did my family come from and what brought them to the United States?  In addition to this paper students are encouraged (but not required) to bring to class an example from their family’ s history. For example, photographs of people or places, clothing, recipes or food items, or a relative! Yes, you, or someone else from your family,  are invited to our classroom to share information about your family journey to America. We hope to see you soon!

Today a student was celebrating his birthday. He wore some  special buttons on his jacket.

Enjoy,

A. Cronin

Room 4 Updates!

Greetings!

Here is an update for our class.

Students took an energy quiz today with Mrs. Greco.

Students will have a Unit 2 test in MATH this Friday

with Mrs. Izbicki.

Students have started learning about migration and immigration in Social Studies. After Halloween students will be looking for family members to interview. Students will be researching how their family came to America. This was a fabulous project last year. Many family members were able to join us in class. Students interviewed their parent or grandparent in front of the class. Classmates also  asked many questions about how families ended up in Dearborn, Michigan. I hope that you or someone in your family can make time to share part of your story with our class.

HALLOWEEN PLANS:

Halloween is next Tuesday. Thank you for sending in party money with your student. We will play BINGO, make treat bags and decorate cookies. There is an ALL SCHOOL PARADE at 2:30. Students are encouraged to wear a costume…however, NO MASKS or WEAPONS!

Many thanks for your support and cooperation,

A. Cronin

She also created her own process for receiving feedback which was simple and annonymous. BRAVO ADRIANA! BRAVO ACTORS! BRAVO STUDENT PROJECTS!
