CALLING ALL MAKERS! CARDBOARD BOX CHALLENGE!

The 4th and 5th grade classes are participating in a cardboard challenge in honor of Earth Day. Students are creating a game that is primarily made out of a cardboard box. If you have not had a chance to watch the video, CAINE’s ARCADE, please do. The focus is to use RECYCLED MATERIALS, please don’t run out and buy items. Students will have class time to work on these projects. Also, the project will be graded as part of engineering design.

The end result will be for younger students to play and enjoy these games. We hope to invite  students to play our games at the end of the month. We also hope that we  model how recycled materials can  be used to inspire us to look at and create things “outside”  the “box”. Here are a few pictures from last year’s box challenge.

Greetings!

A permission slip came home today for our field trip to Stout Middle School to see the musical The Addams Family. Fifth grader, Yasmeen Keaik, got the starring role of Wednesday Addams. She will be singing and dancing with the rest of the cast. The fourth and fifth graders get to see their dress rehearsal for this fabulous production next Wednesday, April 18. By the way, Yasmeen’s sister, Zeinab, is in our class. We are so excited to see The show! Here are a few pictures of the show. Enjoy!

Calling ALL CONSUMERS! MARKET DAY-May 4th, 12:30-3:00!

Happy Wednesday!

Please mark your calendars and join us for an exciting, educational and FUN afternoon. Fourth graders have created companies and have begun working on designing a business plan. The business plans includes products or services that the company can offer to third grade shoppers as well as friends and family members. Students are making things that range from painted rocks and stress balls to root beer floats and robots!

Please plan on joining us…bring a friend or other family members. Each shopper receives 25 play dollars. We will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 12:30 and then we are open for business! Each of the four fourth grades will be hosting student companies with a range of fun products. The third graders will start shopping after 1:30.

Here are some photos of Mrs. Greco’s kids working on products, posters, speeches and commercials!

Fourth Graders Teach Kindergarteners using Chrome book Technology!

Happy Friday Evening!

Today we met with our kindergarten book buddies. Our class worked on animal reports yesterday to share with our buddies. The fourth graders chose an animal and did a simple slide show showing photographs of the animal and written facts about that animal. Today we shared those slide shows. Everyone loved it! We had such a great time. The kindergarteners used the slides to draw a picture of the animal and then wrote factual sentences about that animal. During our time we enjoyed “animal crackers” for a snack. Great FUN!

Enjoy the photographs!

Dearborn High’s Football Players Read and Respond to 4th Graders!

Good Evening!

Last Friday a group of Dearborn High Football players came over to Haigh to spend a little time in each classroom. The players read a book and then answered  questions about life in High School. The players emphasized the importance of reading, doing your homework and being a “team” player. The class really enjoyed the experience. It’s always wonderful to see students from different schools and grades interact and learn from each other.
