CALLNG ALL READERS!

Good Evening!

Our first few days of reading month have been very exciting. We played BINGO with our book buddies, made some cool decorations for our lockers and classroom door and had a guest reader!

This Friday ALL of the fourth grades are planning a reading camp-out in our classrooms. We are calling it “Fort-Read.” Students are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes (Sweats or PJ’s) and to bring a blanket/ sleeping bag/pillow and a flashlight or lanterns.  We will try to make a few small forts in each classroom. Students can move throughout  all four rooms.

Please let me know if you can read to our class-we would love to see you!

Sincerely,

A. Cronin

MARCH is READING MONTH!

Greetings to All,

Yes, Friday is March 1!

Tomorrow students will bring home a packet of information. The packet includes a reading month calendar filled with fun and educational activities for school and at home. It also includes a permission slip for an after school read-a-thon and a reading log for students to use to keep track of their reading minutes. On Friday we will kick off the fun with a school assembly!

In addition students are encouraged to invite YOU and/or other family members to read to our class. You can bring a book from home or we can supply you with one. Please join us in celebrating our love of reading…you can email me with days and times or send a message with your student.

Today we had a very special GUEST READER-Jenna Fitiani. Jenna is the sister of one of our students and also a former student. I was Jenna’s first grade teacher many years ago. Thanks to Jenna for being our first reader.

sincerely,

FABULOUS FRIDAY! RECESS AND RECORDERS!

Greetings to All!

The warmer temperatures allowed us to get outside for our fifteen minute morning recess. It was refreshing and fun.

Also, fourth graders received their recorders in music class. This is quite a milestone and the sounds from our new musicians have begun. The kids are super excited.

Fridays also means spending time with our kindergarten book buddies. Fourth graders created an informational google slide on polar bears for their buddies.

Enjoy the photographs,

Valentine’s Day, a Half Day and a Mini Mid Winter Break…

Greetings to All,

Tomorrow we will have our Valentine Party. Since it is the day of love we are going to enjoy a few activities that we all seem to love.

We will have an assortment of goodies to eat: from donuts to pizza! Also,  students  can bring in electronics from home and we will also enjoy some dancing-some kids have put together a tutorial on some fun, new dances.  WOW! And it’s a HALF DAY! Students will be dismissed at 11:50.

I hope everyone enjoys our mid winter break-no school Friday through Monday!

Thanks again for all your support and cooperation,

A. Cronin

Late Start, NWEA update and the Day of Love!

Greetings!

Tomorrow is a late start. Also, tomorrow  we will celebrate our January PBIS-SOLO CUP STACKING CHALLENGE…it’s always a BLAST!

Winter NWEA is complete! All students worked hard to improve their scores from the Fall.

Next Thursday, February 14, is Valentine’s  Day…the day of Love! This is a half of day of school for students. I would like all students to bring in valentines for their classmates. Also, I am asking for each student to bring in a small treat-either something to eat or not…pencils, stickers, erasers are always a big hit with the kids too. We will enjoy the treats and pass out valentines in the morning.

We are having a Valentine Mailbox Challenge…for FUN! Students are encouraged to make a mailbox at home. Be CREATIVE! Have FUN! Use recycled material…decorate with your favorite pictures, colors, glitter, etc. I will have bags for kids to decorate at school if they are unable to create something at home.

Thanks again for your support and cooperation,

A. Cronin

“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” MLK, JR.

HAPPY MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY!

Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister and activist who became the most visible spokesperson and leader in the civil rights movement. When we return to school this week fourth graders will begin to learn about out government-the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Students will take a closer look at the role of citizenship  in a democracy. In years past this unit has inspired some students to take a more active role in their school-creating a student council with elected officials and representatives from each of the fourth grades. In other words; the words of Dr. Martin Luther King-“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?”
