NWEA update: All students have finished the first of four of these tests: Language Usage.
We started the Science test but just a few students finished this test today. Next Tuesday we will start the Reading and the following week we will finish with Math.
Today we went outside with our book buddies to do a little reading.

We managed to celebrate our 67th year of the city and the school district of Dearborn working together to create a neighborhood parade. The fourth graders had on their visors with a message and we handed out flowers to our friends, family and onlookers. The kids loved it! We returned to school for an assembly. Students from Haigh spoke about different ‘GREEN’ activities at school. We also heard from Mayor O’Reilly, our Superintendent, and the City Beautiful Commissioners. It was a very fun afternoon.
NWEA testing will start on Wednesday morning. We will start with the Language Arts test first.
Next week we will start with Science, then Reading and finally Math.

Our CLEAN UP PARADE is tomorrow. It starts at 1:30. Students are encouraged to wear GREEN, or a HAIGH SHIRT or our FOURTH GRADE ROCKS shirt.
Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

There are so many people and things in this world to be thankful for…I know that so much of who I am I owe to my family and in particular my mother. My sisters and I were inspired by her in so many ways.
To all the moms in my class I hope you enjoy the gifts your student made…while they were working on them I got to see and hear about all the love they have for you….enjoy!

Please join us on Monday for our clean up parade. We will parade through the neighborhood and end with a special outdoor program back at school. The fifth grade city beautiful junior commissioners will speak along with representatives from the city.

Tuesday and Wednesday mornings we will continue with M-STEP testing. This is a math test. Fourth graders will be done with M-STEP testing at the end of this week.
Next week we will start NWEA testing.
NWEA test is four parts: Reading, language, Math and Science.
We will continue with the same guidelines….we will start at 9:00, take a break at 9:45 then continue until 11:00.

Tomorrow the fourth and third grades will start testing. M-Step stands for Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress. It is designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards. This is an online test.
During this last month our class has worked with our building resource teacher to review and practice best test taking skills. The class practiced using the online tools that are made available to them: highlighting the text, magnifying the text and eliminating unreasonable answers.
The fourth grade will start with the reading portion of the test. We will start at nine and test until 9:45. We will take a fifteen minute stretch/snack break. We will resume at ten until lunch time.
Please send in a healthy snack for your student. I will have some oranges, bananas and other fruit available too.
Also, I encourage you to support and encourage your student each morning. We all feel the pressure to do well. Students can be nervous and worried about these online tests. We will be M-Step testing for two weeks and then we will switch to NWEA.
