NWEA practice at home!

Good Morning!

I have had a few requests for NWEA practice sites. Your student can go to www.warmup.nwea.org to practice reading and math. There is no student practice for the science or the language tests.

When you get to this site it will give you a choice: Primary or MAP.

Fourth graders should choose MAP. This is a great opportunity for some practice in the comfort of their home.

Thanks for your cooperation.

We will be taking the reading and math tests next week!

December 7-11

                                                          Greetings!

There have been a few permission slips come home. Let me explain in more detail:

*Cranbrook-all fourth grades are going on a field trip to the  Cranbrook Institute of Science. The date for this trip  is January 28, from 9:15 until 2:30. We were able to bring the cost down somewhat because each fourth grade teacher received 100 dollars from the DTE Energy  program to be used for a field trip. The 400 dollars  we received paid for two Dearborn School buses. We need to collect the money soon in order to reserve our spot at Cranbrook. This will be a great trip and very worthwhile.

*Haigh Lock In-this is a PTA fundraiser. The cost is 10 dollars for staying at school on Friday, December 11, from 3:35 until 6:30. They have lots of activities planned. They can only accept 200 students and it is really filling up. If you are interested, please send in your money ASAP.

*PG Movie permission slip-Our next  PBIS party includes a movie. If you will allow your student to watch a PG movie please sign and return by next week.

*Concert Practice at Bryant Middle School-on Thursday (12/10/15) all fourth and fifth grades will walk to Bryant in the afternoon. We will practice our concert in the auditorium. Please sign and return this permission slip by this Thursday.

Also, remember our concert is at 7:00 at Bryant on Thursday!

Fourth graders will be taking a social studies test in the computer lab next Wednesday( 12/16).  This test will include the material that we have been studying for the last 8 weeks. A study  guide will go home at the end of this week.

Also, we are finishing Unit 4 in math. A practice test/study guide will be coming home this Thursday. Our Unit 4 test will be on Monday, December 14.

November 30, 2015

Greetings!

I hope everyone had a wonderful break.

This week  we have a  fun opportunity for students and their families.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is FAMILY GAME NIGHT! This event takes place at Haigh School from 5:30-6:30. Families will play fun and educational games. This family event is free. Games will be available for purchase. I hope to see you there!

This week we continue to take a closer l0ok at the Underground Railroad.  This network of people helped thousands of African American  men and women  from the slavery of the south to freedom in the north. Look for reading and writing assignments on this topic.

In math we continue to look at fractions and decimals. We are working on story problems with decimals this week.

Please review with your student the difference between multiples and factors. For instance, the multiples of 8 are 8, 16, 24, 40, 48…numbers that get bigger by 8.

Factors are pairs of numbers that you multiply. For instance, factors of 8 are 1, 2, 4, and 8.

Again it is so important to spend a short amount of time each night practicing multiplication facts. Thank you for your help and support.

Lastly, we end this school week a PTA Popcorn sale.We are asking that students pre-order for Friday’s sale. Each bag of popcorn is .50 cents. Notes are coming home today (Monday) concerning the sale.

Thanksgiving Week

Greetings Parents!

Thanks to all of you for meeting with me during Parent/Teacher Conferences. I hope you know that I am available before or after school to answer questions or concerns regarding your student.

This week we have  our monthly PBIS celebration on Tuesday at 2:30. The reward is bowling in our school gym.

Our class will divide into teams, keep score, and bowl from 2:30-3:15.

We are beginning to do some research on BATS. Our class will be working with Mrs. Lahooti’s fourth graders all year learning about Michigan bats and ways to educate our community members about a serious problem. Bats, throughout the United States and in Michigan, are facing a devastating disease called “white nose syndrome”. This is a fungal disease that has killed millions of bats in North America. Our goal is for our fourth graders to learn about this situation and ways we can help Michigan’s bat population.

Next week we will be looking back in history at the underground railroad and how Michiganders helped slaves find freedom in the North.

In math we continue to practice our multiplication facts, look at fractions and decimals and take a closer look at place value.

Lastly, I hope everyone has an enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.
