Fabulous French Voyageur

Wow! What a fabulous day!

We arrived at the OAKWOOD Nature Center around ten this morning. We went canoeing down the Huron River in a 30 foot Reproduction of a French Voyageur canoe. We all had a turn to paddle. We all imagined what life might have been like over two hundred years ago. Our canoe ride lasted about forty minutes. Our guide spoke to us about  early explorers and traders. After, back on land, we learned more about the daily life of these French explorers. We even practiced “hatchet” throwing. Our classmate Finn was able to successfully hit the mark on the tree. TWO TIMES!!!  We were all very happy for him and  the rest of us had fun trying.

afterwards we had lunch with a spectacular view of the river. Then walking the trails. We really had a great day being outside and exploring the world around us.

Rain, Rain and more Rain…

Greetings Everyone!

By now everyone knows we have rescheduled our field trip to the Oakwood Nature Center.

We are going on Monday, October 3, from 9:00 until 2:30.

I want to thank all of you for your cooperation and flexibility.

Also, I am very sorry if you will not be able to make our new date.

Hopefully you will be able to join us another time-either for a field trip or in our classroom for a class project or party.

On another note, we now have a special schedule in place. I will be posting the schedule on this blog but also I will send  home a hard copy.

Sincerely,

April Cronin

Field Trip Information

Good Afternoon!

Your student is bringing  home a permission slip for our first field trip. The field is next Thursday, September 29.

We are going by school bus to the Oakwood Nature Center. This is a fantastic trip. The fourth grades went last year and we can’t wait to go again.

This is a wonderful opportunity for your student to walk outdoor trails, see indoor animal exhibits and travel the Huron River in a voyageur canoe. This canoe seats 18 people and is a reproduction of the canoes the French used while exploring this part of Michigan. All passengers wear life jackets and are seated by an adult. The river is slow moving and shallow.

All students should wear clothing that is suited to being  outside and comfortable shoes for walking. Please send a bagged lunch also.

Please send in the permission slip with the ten dollars by next Monday, September 26.

Also, my class will be going on this trip with our new fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Izbicki.  Each fourth grade student received a letter explaining the  addition of new teacher due to high class sizes.

Students who will be leaving my class to join Mrs. Izbicki’s new fourth grade will still see me everyday for science and social studies.

If you have any questions or concerns please email me or call the school office.

Thank you for your support and cooperation,

April Cronin

First Friday!

Greetings!

WoW! The first week of fourth grade!

It was quite a “hot” week but everyone worked hard and we had a good start to our new year together. Our official class size is 29.

Again,  many thanks for all of the supplies and for the kind words that many of you have expressed about me and our school. It is greatly appreciate.

We have a three day weekend ahead. There is no school on Monday.I hope our Muslim friends have a blessed holiday during the Eid Mubarak.

We will start rotating classes on Tuesday. We had a short rotation today. The students met Mrs. Greco and Mrs. Lahooti. They seemed to enjoy it!

Also next week look for a spelling list with word work activities. This spelling work will be due on Friday. We will have a spelling test on Friday also.

On Tuesday we will have MUSIC and ART.

Gym is on Wednesdays and Fridays.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Sincerely,

April Cronin

First Day, Fourth Grade

Greetings!

We had a terrific day! I really enjoyed meeting everyone!

Thank you for all your generous donations of school supplies.

The room temperature was very warm. Tomorrow  will be a warm day as well. Please send your student with a water bottle. It might  help the comfort level with all the  heat and humidity.

Also, we will have a late morning snack-please send your student with a healthy and easy to eat snack. I will have pretzel rods all week for students who can not bring in a snack.

Our special schedule will start Wednesday afternoon. At this time, our first special area class will be on Friday. On Friday we will  have  Gym with Mr. Peecher at 1:40.

Look for more notes from the office and one from the fourth grade regarding our rotations.

Sincerely,

Ms. April Cronin

Labor Day Weekend

Greetings Parents and Students!

I am very excited for school to start on Tuesday, September 6.  This is a half day of school. We will spend part of our half day together getting to know each other.

I will be sending home on Tuesday many different items from the Haigh office. However, our special schedule will be a “work in progress” during the first two weeks. When we have a permanent special schedule I will send home a paper copy and also add it this blog. The special schedule will include- Book check-out, Technology, Art, Music and Gym.

Look for two personal letters to come home on Tuesday: one from me and one from all three fourth grade teachers.

I hope everyone has a relaxing Labor Day weekend.
See you soon!

Spring Forward!

Greetings!

The school year is quickly coming to an end.

Here are a few very important upcoming events:

*****April 22, 4th Grade Market Day, from 12:30-3:00

Please join us on this very fun day. Parents, grandparents, friends of the family,  will each get 25 play dollars to spend at this event. All four fourth grades will be open for business. Your student is part of a company. Each company will be selling homemade products and/or services.  I hope to see you there!

*****NWEA testing begins for the fourth grade during the beginning of May. We are given three weeks to complete these four tests. We will be practicing in class,  however, your student can practice at home with the NWEA student practice sites. Please work with your student at home and support them during this testing period.

*****M-STEP testing begins May 16. Again, students can practice at home with “smarter-balanced” testing sites provided by the state of Michigan.

Many thanks for all of your support and cooperation!

Sincerely,

A. Cronin
