SPRING into SCIENCE!

on April 8, 2017

Greetings Parents,

I hope all is well with all of you. It sure was a gorgeous day. I was thinking the backyard is a wonderful place to start thinking about our next unit in science-“living things”.  Did you know the first spring flowers are typically daffodils, dandelions, lilies, tulips, iris and lilacs -to name a few.  During Spring the Earth’s axis starts to tilt towards the sun. The days get longer and warmer. Many animals have babies and some, like bears, start to wake up and become active. While you are outside encourage your student to look around and notice how plants and animals are starting to change.  Our next unit in science students will extend their study of plants and animals by examining their needs, their adaptations for survival, their relationships, and their  connections to the organisms that lived in Earth’s past.  One of the overarching questions is how do organism survive and interact within the environment? We will be looking at the basic needs of plants and animals, food chains and food webs.

Start looking-all of this “science” is in our backyards!

I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday.  Here is a picture of some daffodils in my backyard.

sincerely,

a. cronin
