About Me

Hi there! My name is Cassie Acker.  I have been working for Dearborn Public Schools for 18 years (Holy moly! Has it really been that long?!?).  A majority of my career has been spent as a Language Arts teacher.  I taught English at all 3 high schools, and Woodworth Middle School.  As a media specialist, I have worked at several other schools in our district.  This is my sixth year serving as Media Specialist for McCollough-Unis and Stout Middle School, and my first year at River Oaks Elementary School.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in English from Eastern Michigan University, and my masters in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University.  I graduated from EMU in 2001, and WSU in 2005.

I’m happily married to an awesome guy named Tom, and we have two beautiful children, Ava and Caleb.  Ava just started fifth grade, and our little guy is in kindergarten.  I love my kids dearly, and I often share funny stories about them with my students. We recently moved into a new house in Wixom, which is very exciting.  I’m having a blast decorating our new home.

When I’m not working I love to spend time with friends and family, travel, read, shop, go to the movies, and do arts and crafts like scrapbooking and upcycling furniture.  I love trying new things, and I’m always open to new adventures.
