1st Grade:

Content Objective: I know the rules for alphabetizing words.
Language Objective:  I can put a list of words in alphabetical order.
Procedure:

  1. Read aloud: Runaway Pumpkin by Kevin Lewis
  2. ABC order review; quick group practice
  3. Independent work:  Halloween ABC order challenge (no words with the same beginning letter)

2nd Grade:

Content Objective: I know the rules for alphabetizing words.
Language Objective:  I can put a list of words in alphabetical order.
Procedure:

  1. Read aloud: Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper
  2. ABC order review: quick group practice
  3. Independent work: Halloween ABC order challenge (two of the words begin with the same letter)

3rd Grade:

Content Objective: I know the rules for alphabetizing words.
Language Objective:  I can put a list of words in alphabetical order.
Procedure:

  1. Read aloud: The Fierce Yellow Pumpkin by Margaret Wise Brown
  2. ABC order review: quick group practice
  3. Independent work: Halloween ABC order challenge (several words begin with the same letter)
