February Break, Study Island and Khan Academy

For break, I assigned 3 articles.  The kids should be practicing close reading and answering the questions following the passages. https://digital.readworks.org/

Also students should routinely be using study island at home.  If I have not assigned a lesson, they can go to the section marked CLASS.  Then they go to NWEA.  This section gives them practice for NWEA on their level.  It is tailored to meet their individual needs.  Please have them practice on this site at least 3 days a week.

As you may be aware, several years ago NWEA created three PDF documents that connected math goals, sub-goals, and MAP RIT score ranges to Khan Academy math practice exercises via clickable links.  Information about those documents can be found here.  You can also download those documents at this site.

Now, for the exciting RECENT news – Khan Academy has developed an online prototype called MAP Recommended Practice.  Khan Academy is testing this new functionality which allows teachers to enter their students’ NWEA MAP Test scores (students may also enter their own scores) in order for the student to receive a customized playlist of math skills, based on their test results. While this functionality is new to the Khan Academy site, the skills playlists have been developed over several years in close collaboration with NWEA. Until now, these recommended playlists have been made available to teachers via a pdf download from NWEA’s website. This prototype attempts to streamline and facilitate that process for teachers. To give Khan’s resource a try, click here.  Students also have an account through CLEVER.

Just a reminder, like all open educational resources, Khan Academy is free to anyone with an internet connect.  I welcome feedback from you on this prototype resource.
