Lights! Camera! Action! It’s movie night at Salina Intermediate!

Welcome back, families!
I hope you all had a wonderful break! I wanted to update you on a few things that are going on at Salina Intermediate this week: Movie night is this Wednesday! We will also be taking our unit 3 math test on Wednesday. I will be reviewing the concepts that students will be assessed on, today and tomorrow, using the study guides that I sent home with them over the break. Homework for today is the MyOn project that they should have started by now and to write their new spelling words 3 times each. Thank you!

Lots of energy in room 308!

This week, in Science, we continued exploring different forms of energy by constructing “cars” using paper cups and other supplies. Students went beyond testing their hypotheses and used their results to make predictions about energy and how we use it! We enjoyed learning about the world around us by pursuing answers to our questions in a methodical way!

All done with NWEA!

Greetings, Salina families!

We have finished up our NWEA testing this week! Our class will be exploring more about line plots and collecting/displaying data in math. We will also be acting out some character traits for each other to finish up our ELA unit for the week. In Science, students are working on power point presentations to inform each other about energy and its different forms! Lastly, in Social Studies, we are exploring more about where we are,, how to find our location on a map, and the location of our pen-pals whom we just received post-cards and letters from this week! Exciting things are happening in room #308!

Welcome Back!

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year at Salina Intermediate! I am looking forward to a rewarding year full of learning with your 4th grader! During the first week of school we will be spending time getting to know each other and learning classroom routines. It is important that we create a safe learning environment for all students so that learning becomes easier to achieve for everyone.

I have put together a useful informational sheet to help you and your student become familiar with my expectations for the school year. Please take some time to read through the information

About Me:

My name is Safiyya Abdullah and this will be my 3rd year of teaching at Salina Intermediate.  I was born in Lackawanna, New York and I come from a very diverse cultural background, which I love! I attended Wayne State University, earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, then went on to receive my Master’s Degree in in Bilingual/Bi-cultural Education with a focus on ESL. I love teaching at Salina Intermediate! I am looking forward to getting to know all of you as the school year progresses!

Homework:

Every day your child will be bringing home a homework folder that includes a reading log. The instructions for how to complete their reading logs will be included. The homework that will be given is an extension of the learning takes place in class that day. Reading is the key to your child’s success in all areas of learning, so I expect them to read five days a week for 30 minutes and write at least one sentence about what they read. Parents are required to sign their child’s reading log/planner daily. Planners and reading logs will be checked daily.

 Suggested Donations:

Dearborn Public Schools supply all students with basic school supplies to use in the classroom. However, students do lose, break, and wear out many supplies. A suggested supply list is attached. It would be greatly appreciated if parents were able to donate these materials to both your student and our classroom.
