Assignment Calendar

Good morning everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that we are ready to get back to our unique learning situation. We are still awaiting official word from the district to the exact parameters they want to see from us as educators. So for this week, (and most weeks going forward), we are going to share a calendar with each teachers assignments across grade level. We are still here to help in any way we can and will share more as it becomes available. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Governor Update and Hangout

Good morning,

I am sure that most of you have heard the governor’s order at this point and I want to reassure you that we are going to do our best to continue our learning in preparation for next year.  We do not have all the answers but we do have some.  We are going to try our best to provide you with those.

That being said, we are going to host google hangouts for each of our classes tomorrow (Friday April 3) at scheduled times.  The schedule is:

1st Hour – 10:30 AM

2nd Hour – 11:00 AM

4th Hour – 11:30 AM

5th Hour – 12:00 PM

6th Hour – 12:30 PM

We invite both guardians and students to join us to check in, chat with us, and ask any questions you may have.  We will post the link for each hours individual hangout in their google classroom page tomorrow morning 10 minutes before their hangout starts.  You can join via computer with video or phone.  It will be our first meeting so we expect some bugs and issues but also expect everyone to remember fair and proper behavior.

This is still new for all of us but together we can get through this.  As always if you need anything, have questions, or are unsure of what to do/who to ask, we are available for you.  Please contanct us.  We are here for all of you.  Take care.  Stay safe and healthy.  We hope to see as many of you as possible tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Mr. Petrusha & Ms. Rockey

Next Couple Weeks

Good morning everyone,

Ms. Rockey and I wanted to check in with everyone and make sure everyone is staying safe and healthy.  We are here for help if you need it and can do our best to answer any questions you may have.  We do not have all the answers but we can try our best.  I know a lot of us (including your teachers) want to know what the future holds as far as school goes.  Governer Whitmer is supposed to announce more details in the coming days that will give us more clarity on our ever changing situation.

As for the work this week, it is the same as it has been for the past several weeks.  One CER along with the online learning.  All of it is the same as the document we released at the beginning of this event.  If you have any questions about this work please do not hesitate to ask us.

For the week of April 6th-10th, this is our spring break.  We will have no assigned work and nothing will be due.  This is a time to refresh and relax before we begin whatever the next step is in this crazy year.  We will send out another reminder later in the week.

Take care everyone.

Sincerely,

Mr. Petrusha & Ms. Rockey

P.S. Please fill out the survey below if you have not done so already.

Enrichment Learning Updates

Good afternoon everyone,

We wanted to take a few minutes to reflect on our first few days of this online learning we are navigating together. We appreciate so much that many of our students have found time to not only work toward completing this first weeks work but have also taken time to go ahead with many of the assignments to advance in our process. With that being said, I want to clear up and establish some fixes that we notice:

  1. Some clearing up of what is expected with the iReady and Khan Academy. You are to choose one platform OR another not both. If you choose iReady, there will be one teacher assigned lesson per week and three My Path lessons that need to be completed. With Khan Academy, there is already three teacher assigned lessons but you only need to complete the one that has the due date for that week. Khan will also be checked each week for three lessons done on either mappers or for course mastery. Those are up to the students to choose.
  2. The CERs are also only due at one per week. We released all three at once to allow the everyone to work at their own pace. Each one has its own due date so please pay attention to those if you are looking for which ones to do first.
  3. This is the biggest challenge we have encountered so far. We are so happy that a lot of our students are submitting their CERs early so we can comment and allow for corrections but what we are noticing is a lot of our students having the exact same answers. Not similar but exact. This is leading us to believe some of you are copying answers and not doing the work on your own. Any students found sharing answers will not be counted toward completion. Please make sure the work you are submitting is your own otherwise there is no point in completing these to keep up on your learning.

As always, if you have any questions about anything, please reach out to us through email or our listed phone numbers. We are really here to help and are available. Keep up the learning and stay healthy.

Some Updates for our OL Smith Families

I wanted to attach some updates shared with us by our administration to keep everyone on the same page when it comes to this time away from our building. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding these updates and I will try to answer them to the best of my abilities.

Dearborn Schools has announced that O.L. Smith will be added as a student meal distribution site starting on Monday, March 23.

Students, parents or a family representative can stop by any of meal locations from 10 a.m. to noon each week day to pick up meals.  One bag will be handed out for each child under 18 in the home.  The Dearborn School student does not need to attend school at that building.  Students do not need to be present, and a designated person can pick up meals for all the children in the family.
The free grab-and-go meals include food for lunch and breakfast.  Meals for Saturday and Sunday can be picked up on Friday.
Six other food sites opened on Tuesday, including Fordson, Edsel Ford and Dearborn high schools; McCollough-Unis; Salina Intermediate; and Woodworth Middle School.
Signage at each site will direct parents and students to where to enter the building.  Food will be near entrances, usually near the kitchen, to minimize the amount of time community members spend in the facilities.

The grab-and-go meals will be served at least through April 3.
