Michigan Science Center

Last Tuesday 4th graders went on an exciting field trip to the Michigan Science Center

Students learned about sound, space, nutrition, nanotechnology, and combustion.  Check out some of our photos!

This field trip would not have been possible without a grant from Michigan Youth Arts and Maples PTA, both of which supported us and helped pay for our buses.  Thank you!

Read by Third Grade Law

Read by Third Grade Law:
Based on Public Law 306 (October 2016), third grade students who are more than a year below grade level on the state ELA assessment are under consideration for retention in third grade.  Dearborn Public Schools staff in elementary schools have been systematically planning to ensure that teachers have the training to teach reading effectively and that students receive small group instruction based on their needs. The current year second graders are the first group to potentially be impacted by the legislation.
You are invited to join the district task force to strengthen the planning process and to ensure that the community is informed and engaged in the success of every student.
If you would like to participate, please complete the survey.

Battle Against Hunger

A HUGE thank you to Maples 4th graders and their families for donating food this week to Battle Against Hunger.  All cans will be donated to Zaman International and Amity.  It is wonderful to see such kind hearts and a willingness to give.

Exact Path

Exact Path is an EXCELLENT resource for students to practice their Reading, Writing, and Language skills.  Exact Path lessons are based on students’ NWEA scores.  In addition to classwork, Exact Path will give students the opportunity to practice the skills they need to reach their goals on NWEA in January.

Students can now access Exact Path through Clever from the district website by following a few simple steps.

  • Click on EDMENTUM COURSEWARE under “School Specific Links”

I also want students using Zearn for math.  Zearn is great because it goes right along with our math.

Outerwear for Daily Recess

Students go outside for lunch recess and have daily classroom recess breaks in the morning and afternoon. All of these are outside unless it is raining or below 25 degrees F. On Fridays the students have Playworks classroom game time, which is also 30 minutes outside.

Please make sure your child is dressed properly for outside recess each day. This includes a coat, gloves, hat, and scarf.
