DIA and The Parade Company

Maples 4th Graders had a wonderful field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Parade Company!  We saw some modern art, Islamic art, a mummy, puppets, suits of armor, the Diego Rivera mural, and many more beautiful pieces of art.  I know the students would love to go back and spend more time in the museum with their families!

The Detroit Institute of Arts

This is the only thing students could touch at the museum.
Students made sculptures with the game “Suspend.”

Parade Company

A very important float!

Field Trip Thursday – DIA & Parade Company

This Thursday is our field trip to the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Parade Company.  We will leave Maples by 9:30 and return by 2:30.  Students need to be prepared for a day of walking so the need to wear comfortable shoes.  Students are expected to following these guidelines while at the DIA:

  • Walk in slow motion.  All day.
  • Hands in pockets or clasped in front of you.  All day.
  • Stay with your group at all times.  No exceptions.
  • No brochures.  Nothing should be in your hands all day.
  • No cameras.
  • No phones.
  • No money.  You can bring your family back for free.  Then you can go to the gift shop.
  • No pop or glass.  Only bring what you can eat.  Disposable everything for lunch.
  • No gum – museum rules for adults and students.
  • No pointing at or touching anything. EXCEPT the donkey.  Consequences involve hanging onto a teacher’s hand, sitting with Mrs. Briggs and the coats, being taken back to Maples.
  • You can use eye spy – but NO RUNNING or POINTING when you are discovering the work.

Please remember to send a bagged lunch and drink with your child.  We will only have about 20 minutes to eat and everything will need to be thrown away after so only send as much as your child can eat.

I’m looking for a fun day of art!
