Use text evidence to support your answer.

The setting of Nadia the Willful is the Sahara Desert, which makes the story more dramatic and serious. One quote from the text states, “Passing merchants, their camels laden with spices and sweets for the bazaar, told of the emptiness of the desert they had crossed (Alexander, 352). This proves that the desert is dangerous because unless people are with a group, they would be completely on their own with no support. Another quote from the text states, “At last Tarik knew in his heart that his favorite son, Hamed, had been claimed, as other Bedouin before him, by the drifting sands. And he told Nadia what he knew—that Hamed was dead” (Alexander, 352). This idea supports the claim because it proves that other Bedouin people had died in the desert before Hamed. This was not surprising to the characters because the desert has no food, water or shelter for travelers. The Sahara Desert makes the story Nadia the Willful more dramatic and serious.

I will be starting Office Hours this Friday from 12pm to 1pm, and every Friday after that.
