Homework begins week of September 4<\/b><b>th<\/b><b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Spelling<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students will have weekly spelling tests. \u00a0Words will go home at the start of the school week and are expected to be practiced daily at home in their homework notebooks. \u00a0Students will also be practicing daily in the classroom. <\/span><b>Spelling begins week of September 4<\/b><b>th<\/b><b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Nightly Reading<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students should be reading every night at home for approximately 20-40 minutes. \u00a0They may read books of their choice, but please make sure that the books are \u201cjust right books\u201d for them. \u00a0Reading is crucial in developing the mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Classroom Behavior System<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our classroom will focus on positive behavior. \u00a0River Oaks uses the PBIS behavior system that also focuses on positive behavior. \u00a0We will have a clip chart for individual behavior, as well as a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spotted Being Good Chart<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for classroom behavior. \u00a0These charts will allow the students to earn rewards for their superior actions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Healthy Snacks and Water Bottles<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each day your student will be allowed to have a healthy,afternoon snack. \u00a0Please send in snacks that are easy to eat, such as fruit, veggies, crackers, pretzels, etc. \u00a0Your child may have a water bottle (no juice) in the classroom with them throughout the day. Please make sure that the water bottle and snack are labeled with their name. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Toys<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the students like to bring toys to play with at recess. \u00a0Please keep all toys at home! Often toys are misplaced or damaged at school and it is the child who brings in the toy who is responsible. \u00a0Also, if toys are found in the classroom, they will be placed in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">June Box<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u00a0The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">June Box<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a box that will hold any toys from home that are a distraction and will be kept there until the month of June when school breaks for summer. \u00a0Parents may schedule a meeting to discuss the matter and take the toy home upon meeting with the teacher if need be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Field Trips<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are interested in attending any school field trips please make sure to sign up in the office and follow school procedures. You must fill out a volunteer form in the office before coming into the classroom. It takes about one week to process. We will have forms available during open house.
