{"id":601,"date":"2018-04-26T12:35:21","date_gmt":"2018-04-26T16:35:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/wentlaa\/?p=601"},"modified":"2018-04-26T12:35:21","modified_gmt":"2018-04-26T16:35:21","slug":"when-to-keep-your-child-home-from-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/wentlaa\/2018\/04\/26\/when-to-keep-your-child-home-from-school\/","title":{"rendered":"When to Keep Your Child Home from School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When to Keep Your Child Home from School<br \/>\nIllness What to do?<br \/>\nChickenpox Keep child home until they have no new sores for 24 hours AND all<br \/>\nsores are dried and crusted.<br \/>\n**During an outbreak of chickenpox, children who are NOT vaccinated<br \/>\nfor chickenpox (Varicella) and have been in close contact with someone<br \/>\nsick with the infection will not be allowed at school for 21 days after they<br \/>\nwere last exposed to chickenpox, even if they are not sick.<br \/>\nDiarrhea that cannot be<br \/>\ncontrolled and\/or with a fever.<br \/>\nKeep child at home.<br \/>\nFever with temperature 100\u00b0<br \/>\nor higher and not feeling well<br \/>\nenough to participate in class.<br \/>\nKeep child home until fever-free for 24 hours without using feverreducing<br \/>\nmedicine such as Motrin or Tylenol.<br \/>\nFlu-like symptoms with<br \/>\nfever, chills, sore throat, runny<br \/>\nnose, muscle aches, tiredness;<br \/>\nmay also have vomiting and<br \/>\ndiarrhea.<br \/>\nKeep child home until symptoms are gone.<br \/>\nHead lice If lice are first found at school, child may stay until end of the day but<br \/>\nmay not return until treated and all live lice are gone.<br \/>\nImpetigo Keep child home until 24 hours after antibiotics have been started.<br \/>\nMRSA Keep child home if sore is draining and cannot be covered with a clean,<br \/>\ndry bandage. Keep child home if they cannot keep from picking at sore.<br \/>\nRash Keep child home until seen by a doctor and treated if needed. The school<br \/>\nmay request a doctor\u2019s note to return to school.<br \/>\nStrep throat Keep child home until 24 hours after antibiotics have been started.<br \/>\nPink eye with discharge Keep child home until seen by a doctor and 24 hours after first dose of<br \/>\nmedicine, if prescribed.<br \/>\nRingworm If ringworm is first found at school, child may stay until end of the day if<br \/>\nit can be covered.
