Please bring your student to school by 6:45 on March 20 (Thursday.) Students should report to their classrooms. Dress nicely, but instrument players will be sitting on the floor, so dress comfortably, also! The concert starts at 7:00 and is about 30-40 minutes in duration. We need ALL 2nd & 3rd graders!

UPDATE – as of April 2014 – this concert can be seen on DPS YouTube (See “Student Recordings” Page on this Blog.)

Due to inclement weather, the district cancelled evening activities February 5, the night of our concert. We will reschedule the concert for February 12 (Wednesday.) Students in 4th & 5th grade should report to their classrooms at 6:45 that night. Dress nicely for the concert! See you there!

Here is a “sneak preview” of our concert – this is from our 2:00 concert during the school day:

Our Howard students are having fun with a student teacher in their music class this semester! Stephanie Ebaugh joins us from Eastern Michigan University. She has an associate’s degree in American Sign Language, so the students are enjoying signing as well as singing songs in class with her. She will be assisting with the 4th and 5th grade concert on February 5.
Come up and say “hello!”

Welcome to Howard Music 2013-14

The third graders are pictured below, in “Studios” – these are small collaborative groups, engaged in learning together. See for yourself!

Dearborn Elementary Music Teachers are using “Total Learning” concepts this year, working with Dr. Susan Snyder, who trained us in “Total Literacy” previously. Studios are something like centers, but the students work together on different “mini-projects.”

International Day of Peace (Sept. 21, 2013)
Thanks to Mrs. Bronson for taking this video clip of us singing around the Peace Pole, with our Peace Pinwheels.

Welcome to a new school year at Howard! News on concerts and other events coming soon!

Howard School 4th & 5th Grades performed their Mid-Winter concert on February 7. This concert is on YouTube (click on the Student Recordings page on this blog.) 4th graders will continue their recorder study for the remainder of the school year and they hope to surprise you with their progress in the spring! The 5th graders are also gaining skill on their band instruments with Mr. Gozzard, and they will be showing off their talents later this spring also.

The 2nd and 3rd grade students will be performing in the gym on March 14 (Thursday) at 7:00 pm. Their concert will be a celebration of March is Reading Month. The book fair will be running the night of the concert, also.

The first graders will be inviting you to the music classroom later in the spring, the dates will be announced later. Thanks for supporting Howard School’s music program!

SING-ALONG/Haircutting Dec. 20

Howard School is having a hair cutting event (formerly known as “Locks of Love”) to support children who need wigs due to hair loss from disease. During this event we will also have a seasonal sing-along for the school. This event will take place in the school gym on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 1:30 P.M. Thanks to all who have donated their hair for a good cause.
