K-5 students are learning about music AND having a spookin’ good time, too.
Kindergarten: We are learning about 4 voice types: whisper, speak, sing & call (not yell or scream). We are playing singing games that use our different voices.
1st – 3rd Grade are working on rhythm and beat. We are singing also. You will probably hear some Halloween tunes and rhythms!
4th & 5th Grade have been working on canons and partner songs in class. We’ve been playing the Orff instruments also, adding ostinato accompaniments to our singing.
Concert dates have not been set yet, but 4th & 5th graders have a concert in February. In March, the 2nd & 3rd graders perform a literacy-based music program. In April, the first graders have an “informance” for their parents in the music room, and in May the 4th grade recorders and the 5th grade instrumental (band or strings) students perform.

On September 28, at 9:00 a.m., the art & music department will put our “spin” on world peace. We (K-5) will go out with our Peace Pinwheels and commemorate the day by singing “Circle the Earth with Peace” as our pinwheels turn. Following that, we (1st-5th) will celebrate Summer Reading Club participants in the gym.
The 4th grade recorder students and the 5th grade band, and strings students are presenting a concert on May 12 . in the Howard Gym.
A note went home – the time on that note (7:00) has been changed.
The concert will be at 6:00.
Another reminder will go home in May with more instructions!
Thanks, and see you there!

Come to Room 8 (Music Room, in the Kindergarten wing of the building) – check in at the office first 🙂 The informance will last about 20 minutes.

Kinders are working on steady beat, 1st and 2nd graders are working on rhythm and beat, 3rd graders are working on canons and ostinatos, 4th graders and 5th graders are working on canons, rondo form, and instrumental accompaniments on the Orff instruments. If you don’t know what any of this means, please ask your student 🙂
