For the past two days in LA, the students have been focusing on reviewing Daily 5. \u00a0Yesterday the students discussed what their jobs are while they are working on their writing and working with words. \u00a0We also discussed the role of the teacher during this time. \u00a0We practiced doing word work by identifying words we do not know in the story, “Eleven,” found in our textbooks. \u00a0The students worked together to create a class list of all of the interesting words and the words they did not know. \u00a0Tomorrow they will build our first Word Wall. \u00a0I will take pictures of it and post it to the blog when it is completed.<\/p>\n
Today the students went to the library. \u00a0Before they went, we discussed how we select Good Fit Books through the IPICK acronym. \u00a0Upon returning from the library, the students were given time to practice read to self. \u00a0We also built up or CAFE board for Daily 5. \u00a0We discussed that our goal for this year is to master as many Daily 5 strategies as we can between now and the end of the year. \u00a0We will begin identifying individual goals tomorrow.<\/p>\n
Progress Reports went home today. \u00a0Please ask your child if they got one. \u00a0If students have a C- or lower in any of their core classes, they will receive and individual grade report from that class. \u00a0If your child did not bring home a progress report, this means that they have a C or better in 6th Grade LA. \u00a0At this point, the grades on student connect have been updated. \u00a0Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns. \u00a0If your child received a progress report, you do not need to sign and return it. \u00a0It is yours to keep. \u00a0Grades are constantly changing in this class. \u00a0Please make sure you are checking parent connect so we can work together to help your child be successful this year.<\/p>\n
