{"id":147,"date":"2014-03-28T15:21:51","date_gmt":"2014-03-28T19:21:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/trayloa\/?p=147"},"modified":"2014-03-28T15:24:13","modified_gmt":"2014-03-28T19:24:13","slug":"friday-march-28-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/trayloa\/2014\/03\/28\/friday-march-28-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday, March 28, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today in Language Arts the students continued working in their factions. \u00a0The students reading Divergent were divided up into the five factions of the book for reading groups. \u00a0Yesterday they completed Chapter One Guided Questions, read and article about the author, and answered questions about her. \u00a0Today they completed Chapters Two and Three Guided Questions. \u00a0We discussed the importance of Author&#8217;s Craft in the novel and identified the genre, point of view, organization, and figurative language that has been used. \u00a0We used this information to create a paragraph about the Author&#8217;s Craft. \u00a0Their homework assignment over the weekend is to read chapters four and five of the novel and identify words they do not know.<\/p>\n<p>Students reading The Giver completed Chapters One and Two Guided Questions. \u00a0They also wrote a summary about what they know has happened so far in our novel. \u00a0Today in class we discussed how the author uses vocabulary words we are familiar with in a way that we have never heard them before. \u00a0We discussed how challenging it must be fore authors to select the perfect words to use when writing. \u00a0We did an activity that corresponds to this. \u00a0Once this was completed, we also discussed Author&#8217;s Craft and wrote a paragraph about the genre, point of view, organization, and figurative language in the novel. \u00a0Their homework assignment is to read chapter three and identify words they do not know.<\/p>\n<p>We have been talking about bullying in class and in honor of this, our journal topic was to respond to a new song released by Hunter Hayes, a country music artist. \u00a0Watch the video we saw in class today at the link below!<\/p>\n<p>Have a great weekend!<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_6JQ-dORu-E<\/p>\n<p>Journal for Thursday:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Giver Group<\/strong>: If you were a member of Jonas&#8217;s family, what feeling would you share that you have experienced today? \u00a0Why did you pick this feeling? \u00a0How does it make you feel when you share them? \u00a0Do you think Jonas feels the same way you do?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Divergent Group<\/strong>: Abnegation is considered to be the selfless faction. \u00a0What kinds of things do you do to be selfless? \u00a0Could you spend the rest of your life only focusing on others? \u00a0Why or why not?
