going from spring to summer and that means ice cream season!!! Before starting we watched a video on real wacky ice cream flavors that people enjoy allover the world. Next,\u00a0 student folded their paper into 6 boxes to accommodate each scoop of ice cream and made a crayon rubbing on each one using texture plates. With thier free time they had to name thier flavors on the back &amp; get creative. Day one was spent drawing and out lining the flower to fill the page. Day two we painted it in and filled in the background. Nearly a month ago we had discussed and practiced symmetry with our cities. To my relief it appears the class remembers their art vocabulary well. Day one was spent using watered down black paint to create the body of our butterfly. Day one, students watched a video on Zebras and the various types that live throughout our world. Afterward, we practiced creating vertical and horizontal stripes on two separate sheets of paper using black paint. Day two the class step by step assembled their zebra by folding and cutting their two pieces of paper.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Weaving Hearts<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Second grade learns about the wonderful world of weaving and how it has been apart of our world for centuries in numerous continents and cultures. Day one, after watching a brief video on the history of weaving we immediately made our heart loom with tracers and rulers. Day two, we focused on how to weave paper strips into the paper loom.Over, under, over and under. Students were reminded to make it look like a chess\/checkerboard design; no two same colors could be side by side. The entire class reviewed what a community is (where people work, live and play) and the three types:rural, urban and suburban. Using our previous knowledge we designed our own urban community by a river, but with symmetry. After coloring in the buildings with crayola markers students sponged down the blank half of their paper. However, looking at both examples on the board the class noticed that each snowman was depicted differently. Students used their own words to describe what looked like &#8216;looking down&#8217; on a snowman, but were taught it&#8217;s officially called &#8220;Bird&#8217;s eye view&#8221;. However, students learned that spiders are nothing to fear. The class worked on a directed drawing of a spider web.
