Using color sticks (a.k.a color pencil leads) we drew a glass jar with a reflection, stems and water in it. At the topof the stem students were instructed to draw a rain drop shape and than given q-tips and 3 paint colors to fill it in along with a demonstration onhowto apply it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/torressart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2534\/2018\/05\/lilacs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-320 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/torressart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2534\/2018\/05\/lilacs-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/torressart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2534\/2018\/05\/lilacs-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/torressart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2534\/2018\/05\/lilacs.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Self Portraits<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The first day of class we read &#8220;The Color of Us&#8221; by Karen Katz and learned all about a very diverse neighborhood and all of its beautiful skin colors. We than began to draw a realistic face via directed drawing. Afterward students filled in personal details such as hair, jewelry and clothing. The second day we traced with sharpie and discussed how to mix different skin tones. Day two students watched a clip from &#8220;The Lion King&#8221;where Simba loses his dad; students must decide whose side are they on. Good or evil: #TeamSimba or #Teamscar? Students looked closely at the colors used in the snowmen to create a shadow. We discovered shadows can be made with colors aside from black! Day one students learned some quick and interesting facts about turkeys and created a directed drawing of their turkey. Day two we discussed what is a color wheel and how it is a very important tool to artists. These colors in the art world go by the name of warm colors; colors we associate with warmth. Day one 0f the project was focused on using mod-podge (a special glue) to glue down the warm color tissue papers to the paper. Students were reminded to first put the glue down, than tissue paper and one more glue layer on top of the tissue. Day two was spent creating the background paper and cutting the leaf out of the mod-podge tissue paper. Every student&#8217;s artwork was hanged in the cafeteria for the entire school to enjoy.
