{"id":357,"date":"2016-11-02T14:37:19","date_gmt":"2016-11-02T18:37:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/timpfela\/?p=357"},"modified":"2016-11-02T14:37:19","modified_gmt":"2016-11-02T18:37:19","slug":"elements-of-a-plot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/timpfela\/2016\/11\/02\/elements-of-a-plot\/","title":{"rendered":"Elements of a Plot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello 8th Graders,<\/p>\n<p>Here are the elements of a narrative including, definitions, and why each is important to a story.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Setting<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definition: where and when a story takes place<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Setting is important because the location and time of a story affects the plot and characters.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dramatic Irony<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definition:\u00a0when a reader knows the reasons for an event before the characters do<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The importance of dramatic irony is to create suspense for the reader as they wait for the moment that the character\u2019s learn what the reader already knows.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Point of View<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definition:\u00a0how a reader \u201csees\u201d and \u201chears\u201d the events in a story; can be in 1st person, 2nd person, or 3rd person<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The importance of point of view is to allow the writer to express the emotions of all character\u2019s or one character, depending on what the author wants the story to do for the reader.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Characterization<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definition:\u00a0the personality of a character<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Characterization is important because it explains a character\u2019s personality and allows the reader to better understand them.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Theme<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definition:\u00a0the message an author wants you to learn<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Themes are important because they allow the author to share their thoughts with the reader, particularly about how the world works or how they view life.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Suspense<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definition:\u00a0creates a feeling of worry or anticipation in the reader<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The importance of suspense is to play on the curiosity reader\u2019s feel in order to maintain interest and focus on the story.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mood<\/span>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Definition:\u00a0the feelings a reader gets through the words and descriptions in a story<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The importance of mood is to create an emotional connection between the story\/characters and the reader.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello 8th Graders, Here are the elements of a narrative including, definitions, and why each is important to a story.
