I hope you all had a restful and wonderful weekend!  I cannot believe it is already June.  Summer will be here before we know it!  Before we start today&#8217;s activities, here are some announcements&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student Material Distribution<br>TODAY<\/strong> (Monday, June 1) Salina Elementary is hosting a student material distribution from 11:00 AM-3:00 PM.  This is for any student(s) who may have left some materials at school prior to the closure (examples may be clothing items, blankets, books, snow gear, etc.).  Families will drive up, tell the staff the name(s) of the student(s), and the staff will put the materials in the families\u2019 cars.<br>If you have any books from the school library, please return them on this day.<br>If you have a Chromebook, please keep it at your house until the fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Phone Calls This Week (Week of June 1)<br><\/strong>This week is the&nbsp;<strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">LAST WEEK<\/span><\/strong>&nbsp;Mrs. Askar and I will be calling families. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to talk to your children and wish them good luck next school year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Personal Activities<br><\/strong>This week is the&nbsp;<strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">LAST WEEK<\/span><\/strong>&nbsp;I will be sending your child personal activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Personal Phone calls for tomorrow, June 2, 2020<br><\/strong>Tomorrow, Mrs. Askar and I will be calling families who scheduled a Tuesday phone call from 12:00 PM-3:00 PM.  We will be calling from a blocked number, so please do not be alarmed.  If you miss our call, we will leave you a voicemail.<br>As a reminder, <strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">this is the LAST phone call Mrs. Askar and I will be making<\/span><\/strong>. Please send me pictures of your child&#8217;s writing on Remind or email: thompsl@dearbornschools.org.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Math Activity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, we are going to do a measuring activity!  For our activity, we are going to measure how tall we are.  All you need is something you can measure your child with (preferably items that are the same size).  Here are some ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Toys<\/li><li>Blocks<\/li><li>Socks<\/li><li>Forks<\/li><li>Spoons<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the directions for the activity:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Encourage your child to lay down on the floor.<\/li><li>Line up the items you chose to measure your child until they are the same height as your child.<\/li><li>Encourage your child to count the items in the line.<\/li><li>Ask your child, &#8220;How tall are you?&#8221;  (They should say the number of items that are in the line.)<\/li><li>Repeat steps 1-4, but let your child measure you.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Work Time<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I encourage your child to engage in imaginary play for at least 60 minutes a day. To keep the consistency with what we do at school, I encourage you to follow the Plan, Do, Review process. Here is the Work Time process:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Planning Time (5 minutes): Build your child\u2019s ability to organize their time by having them make a \u201cplan\u201d with you about what they would like to play with.&nbsp; Children do this everyday with us at school. It helps children learn to organize their thoughts. Dramatic play allows children to develop communication skills authentically.  It also allows children to explore their interests an imagination.<br>Prior to the school closure, the students developed an interest in our class doctor&#8217;s kit.  They enjoyed taking care of the baby dolls, as well as their friends.
