One of our major expectations is for our students to grow more independent in various facets of life. One of these critical areas is to increase independence in personal care and to further develop self-help skills. With collaboration and support from our classroom teams and our support team, I am confident that every student is capable of growing more independent and participating in activities of self-care. Under the leadership of Josh Bodary and with support from Al (OT) and Andrea (OT), we have purchased personal care kits for all our students to work on these functional skills at a level that is appropriate to them. Please keep in mind that many academic concepts, communication, and motor skills can be addressed through functional activities like these.\u00a0 It is important that parents know we will be working on this and we will need consent to use personal care products to support the learning.\u00a0 A letter will be sent home to obtain permission from parents to begin this targeted instruction with our students. We will keep a file of all the consent forms in the main office and develop a plan for supporting this work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
