You will find the lessons that need to be completed on this page. The lessons will be assigned Mondays through Fridays. Please always be aware of when the assignment is due. If there is a real reason why you are not able to completed the work you need to email me that day – please.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please do you best to keep up and get everything done…time is ticking and we have to generate report cards soon and your 6th grade teachers will be looking to see how you handle online work. LANGUAGE ARTS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today you will be doing the same as yesterday – you need to go to googleclassroom and complete the assignment. This is not an option and I need everyone to finish it today…pretty please….but seriously EVERYONE MUST DO IT TODAY AND DO IT WELL. (I am making a serious face … so do it ….and it needs to be done well). You just have a different list of friends today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You also have to read a book of your choice for at least 30 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MATH:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did you really finish the language arts assignment – really? If you didn’t go back and finish now please. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do you have any missing math assignments? If you do please finish them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next week you HAVE TO READ MY BLOG SO I CAN TEACH YOU HOW TO DO THE MANDATORY SUMMER HOMEWORK. Do you promise to read my blog and do the math next week? If your answer is yes then your math assignment today is to take a walk with your family and count the trees in your neighborhood. If your answer is no then you have to do all the IXL assignments in the whole wide world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SOCIAL STUDIES:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Did you finish any missing work you had in social studies? Did you agree to read my blog about next week and learn how to do the MANDATORY SUMMER HOMEWORK? DID YOU FINISH THE LANGUAGE ARTS ASSIGNMENT FOR TODAY AND YESTERDAY? If the answer is yes then your homework is to be social with your family and have a 20 minute conversation with them about school, the summer, or your family. If your answer is no then you have to read the entire online social studies book again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I still must give you math today and tomorrow. So today you are going to practice a skill so that when the ice-cream truck comes driving down your street the driver doesn’t steal your change or over charge you! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know I am sorry – I have to give you Social Studies – but I will make you a deal. You have to read pages 168 – 170 in the online book which is the “Ratification of the Constitution” and then go to googleclassroom and you tell me 4 things that you feel are seriously important about what you read. You decide. You decide smartly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember you only have two new assignments today because I want to give anyone who has ANY MISSING WORK extra time to get it done TODAY. PLEASE DO NOT PUT IT OFF – I need to start working towards getting report cards started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LANGUAGE ARTS:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will need to read and answer questions in Readworks. Today’s questions are a combination of comprehension, cause and effect, and inference. Please do your best to get a good score the first time (70% or higher). If you don’t I will reassign it to you. Think of this as a reading test. Please DO NOT HELP EACH OTHER WITH THIS ONE. You may ask a parent to HELP you but not a FREIND FOR THE ANSWER.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

****READWORKS – Endangered Animals at a Glance*****(this passage goes along with science)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MATH:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today you have a CHOICE of assignments that have to do with volume. You need to do ONE of the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choice #1 — Math IXL EE (new) – Compare volumes and dimensions of rectangular prisms (word problems) – 90 or higher<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OR<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choice #2 — Calculate the total volume of a “Box creation” – you will need at least 5 boxes, a ruler, paper, tape, calculator and a camera (phone camera). Follow these directions: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Create a sculpture or object with your boxes.<\/li>
  2. Measure the width, length and height of each box (rectangular prism) and record on paper – you can use sticky notes or tape little pieces of paper. (remember L = length, H= height, W = width). Measure in inches and you can round to the nearest inch.<\/li>
  3. Calculate the volume (remember Volume = L x H x W) of each rectangular prism and record on paper. Remember when you calculate the volume the unit changes to inches cubed – it will look like “in” with a little 3 as an exponent.<\/li>
  4. Add all the volumes together on separate paper and label total volume of ________________(whatever you build).<\/li>
  5. Take a few pictures and send them to me – make sure everything is labeled like the pictures below.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Now don’t complain or roll your eyes because technically it is still the school year…you need to do reading in IXL today. It will take you a little longer but that it should because it is reading and you are doing this to improve skills….right?….say yes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Today you will read an informational passage and compare and contrast the information provided. Read and think carefully – sometimes you will place a check in one place and other times you will place a check in many…think, my dears, think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    *****Do 5th grade Language Arts IXL D.2 – Compare\/Contrast in an information text*****Try to get to at least 90.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    WRITING – GRAMMAR\/MECHANICS<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Today you will learn what a “modal verb” is and do some practice with “modal verbs”. Here is the information and examples you need:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Modal verbs<\/strong> are helping verbs that express certain conditions. Some examples of modal verbs are can<\/strong>, could<\/strong>, may<\/strong>, might<\/strong>, must<\/strong>, should<\/strong>, will<\/strong>, and would<\/strong>.The verb can<\/strong> shows ability<\/em>.Nate can ride a bike.The verb could<\/strong> shows past ability<\/em> or a request<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You don’t need to read all the following examples but read some to help you understand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
