{"id":257,"date":"2020-06-11T08:49:36","date_gmt":"2020-06-11T12:49:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/subkglinbergh\/?p=257"},"modified":"2020-06-11T08:49:38","modified_gmt":"2020-06-11T12:49:38","slug":"summer-reading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/subkglinbergh\/2020\/06\/11\/summer-reading\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Reading"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Dear Families,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;According to Johns Hopkins University, the effects of summer learning loss can result in nearly a three-month loss in grade-level equivalency in math and a two-month loss in grade-level equivalency in reading.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0As a result of the school shut down, estimates suggest students will return in fall 2020 with roughly 70% of the learning gains in reading relative to a typical school year.\u00a0 However in mathematics, students are likely to show much smaller learning gains and in some grades, nearly a full year behind what we would observe in normal conditions. In order to close the summer learning loss gap in reading and math, students should be reading on a daily basis and or completing math activities. Below are some activities you can do:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Raz Kids &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kidsa-z.com\">www.kidsa-z.com<\/a> &#8211; Many great books to read!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li>Zearn or <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1oQZKcaHmAyWdg9BHmMKrRend28kvD_yt\/view?usp=sharing\">Zearn Packet<\/a><\/li><li>Eureka Math Resource &#8211; greatminds.org &nbsp; Find Knowledge on the Go, then click Access Free Resources.&nbsp; Click your grade or the next grade!<\/li><li>Read at least 20 minutes each day<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/17RDoZ44-Zne3BhhHU8_MC2C2RZPX2DEc\/view?usp=sharing\">Summer Packet<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Thank you so much for supporting your child\u2019s development through summer learning.
