{"id":54,"date":"2015-08-29T12:03:04","date_gmt":"2015-08-29T16:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/speterson\/?p=54"},"modified":"2015-08-29T12:05:34","modified_gmt":"2015-08-29T16:05:34","slug":"henry-ford-early-college-makes-americas-top-high-schools-list","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/speterson\/2015\/08\/29\/henry-ford-early-college-makes-americas-top-high-schools-list\/","title":{"rendered":"Henry Ford Early College and Fordson High School top Newsweek&#8217;s list."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>Fordson and Henry Ford Early College named on Newsweek\u2019s top schools list:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Congratulations to the staff, students and parents of Fordson High School and the Henry Ford Early College. \u00a0Fordson High School and Henry Ford College have been named in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newsweek\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c2015 America\u2019s Top Schools\u201d report. \u00a0Fordson was ranked 155th on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newsweek\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> national list of schools who are beating the odds. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Henry Ford Early College was ranked 124th on \u00a0\u201cAmerica\u2019s Top High Schools\u201d list and given a gold star ranking for the achievement of their economically disadvantaged students. \u00a0The gold star is given to schools where economically disadvantaged students achieve at or above the state proficiency levels. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Henry Ford Early College: ranked 124th on \u201cAmerica\u2019s Top High Schools\u201d list, Gold Star<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College Readiness score: \u00a083.3%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduation Rate: \u00a0100%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College Bound: \u00a0100%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poverty 54.6%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fordson High School: \u00a0ranked 155th on <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Newsweek\u2019s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBeating the Odds\u201d list<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College Readiness score: \u00a083.9%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduation Rate: \u00a098.2%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College Bound: \u00a074.1%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Poverty: \u00a075.8%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be considered, schools had to complete a survey. \u00a0Newsweek evaluated public high schools based on their proficiency rates on standardized state-level math and reading\/language arts assessments, using the proficiency rates to create a high school achievement index for each school. \u00a0Newsweek created a weighted College Readiness Index based on:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">College Enrollment Rate &#8211; 25%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graduation Rate &#8211; 20%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weighted AP\/IB\/Dual Enrollment composite &#8211; 17.5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weighted SAT\/ACT composite &#8211; 17.5%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student retention (change in student enrollment between 9th and 12th grades;
