Attached are details regarding an important Parent Informational Zoom Meeting regarding adoption of Benchmark reading\/writing and secondary math programs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

GLEANERS food Distribution, <\/strong>Tuesday June 2, 2020 at 11 a.m.<\/u><\/strong>, menu includes Halal Chicken \/ White Rice \/ Peanut Butter \/ Orange Juice \/ Walnuts\/ Raisins \/ Spaghetti Sauce \/ Fruit Mix \/ Canned Apple Sauce<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students will be taking the i-Ready Diagnostic beginning <\/strong>June 8th<\/sup>, 2020<\/u><\/strong>.  It is VERY<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IMPORTANT<\/u><\/strong> students do their own work and give the best effort allowing for appropriate reading placement during summer learning.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elementary Report Cards will be distributed via Parent Connect, students still have time this week to complete i-Ready lessons and google classroom assignments for full credit.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHO: ALL Miller k-5 Students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHEN:  Thursday June 04, 2020<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

kindergarten \/ 1st \/ 2nd Grade Students<\/u><\/strong>Material Distribution \/ Collection will take place between <\/strong>12 – 1 p.m.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grades 3rd \/ 4th \/ 5th Grade Students<\/u><\/strong>Material Distribution \/ Collection will take place between <\/strong>1 – 2 p.m.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHAT:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Distribution and Collection of Student Materials and Summer Math Learning Packets. Teachers will be lined up by alphabetical order and a sign with teacher name will be clearly marked.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHERE:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHY:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents are required to pick up belongings and drop off classroom and library books. Chromebooks <\/strong>WILL NOT<\/u><\/strong> be collected; students will keep Chromebook over the summer for summer learning.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

HOW:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.      <\/strong>Parents place LLI\/ science\/classroom\/library books in the trunk of their vehicle.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

2.      <\/strong>Parents drive up to designated area and pop open the trunk of the vehicle, if walking please observe social distancing measures.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.      <\/strong>Teacher will place students’ belongings in the trunk and remove LLI \/ classroom and library books. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

NOTE:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do not bring students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ensure all books are placed in the trunk<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do not exit the car<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we all work together, drive slow and follow directions things will run smoothly, thanks un advance for the teamwork.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents can preview possible curriculum changes<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dearborn Public Schools is offering a chance for parents and community members to explore two new curriculum resources the District is recommending for next year – one for elementary English Language Arts and the other for some high school math. Both curriculums provide extensive digital resources that are available for school and home use.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interested parents can view some of the materials online and then learn more about the resources during online meetings on Monday for the elementary program and Tuesday for the math program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both curriculum resources have gone through extensive evaluation by Dearborn teachers and have been recommended by the District\u2019s curriculum committee. This is part of the District\u2019s regular process to update and implement new curriculum.  Please note, these changes have not yet been approved by the Board of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elementary Reading and Writing <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elementary parents are invited to learn more about the Benchmark Advance English Language Arts program that the District is considering for all the kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benchmark Advance \u00a9 2021 is a standards-based, core English Language Arts program. Language arts includes reading and writing and also impacts text-based resources for science and social studies.  The Benchmark program provides lessons and practice in all areas of reading including phonological awareness, phonics and word study, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.  Writing is also included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents are invited to attend a Zoom meeting with Benchmark representatives for more information and a Q & A session on Monday, June 1 from 5 to 6 p.m.  Please email communications@dearbornschools.org<\/a> for information on logging into the Zoom meeting and to get login information to view a sample of the digital curriculum material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Secondary math<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents also are invited to learn more about the enVision AGA math program that is recommended for adoption for use for Algebra 1, Algebra 2 and Geometry instruction.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

enVision AGA is a highly rated program and has been researched and piloted in Dearborn classrooms over the last two years. Textbooks, workbooks and an extensive collection of digital resources, including interactives, mathematical modeling, and adaptive practice are part of  enVision’s high quality program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents can view enVision materials using the link to a padlet: enVision Math<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to previewing the materials online, parents are invited to attend a Google Meet with enVision\/Savvas representatives for more information and for a Q & A session on Tuesday, June 2 from 4 to 5 p.m.  Please email communications@dearbornschools.org<\/a> for information on accessing the Google Meet event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
