The students have been working with <strong>Expanded Notaton<\/strong> in Math! Here&#8217;s what they do&#8230;<br \/>\n They use dice, rods (10&#8217;s) and 1&#8217;s.<br \/>\nFirst, they roll 2 dice.  One die is for the tens.  One die for the 1&#8217;s.<br \/>\nThey write down the 2 numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Next, they make the number with rods and ones.<br \/>\nLast, they expand the number.<\/p>\n<p>For example, they might roll <strong>3 <\/strong> <strong>5<\/strong>.  The <strong>3<\/strong>would be the 10&#8217;s and the <strong>5<\/strong> would be the ones.<\/p>\n<p>Write down the 2 numbers.   <\/p>\n<p>Next, draw the number using rods and ones. <\/p>\n<p>Last, expand the number.  30 +  5= 35.<\/p>\n<p>And all in Kindergarten!<\/p>\n<p>Thanks for the tissue rolls.  We turned them into &#8220;Minions&#8221; and are hanging on our board.  I&#8217;ll put up a heading saying, &#8220;A Minion Reasons to read at Camp Read-A-Lot!&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re getting a bit low on snacks.  Thanks.<\/p>\n<p>They are doing so well in here with their reading, writing, and math. Predictions and Problem Solving Skills are showing progress too.
