{"id":924,"date":"2015-01-23T16:43:21","date_gmt":"2015-01-23T21:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=924"},"modified":"2015-01-23T16:43:21","modified_gmt":"2015-01-23T21:43:21","slug":"january-26-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2015\/01\/23\/january-26-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"January 26, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have a busy week coming up! \u00a0Please make sure your child is well fed, well rested, and here at school.<\/p>\n<p>All students will be taking the MAP, which is an assessment tool to mark their progress. \u00a0They took this assessment last October, now it&#8217;s time for a mid-year check, and they will take one more in the Spring.<\/p>\n<p>All students will have a District Writing Prompt. \u00a0This assessment also happens 3 times a year.<\/p>\n<p>This week is also Howard Spirit Week. \u00a0The students always enjoy these events. \u00a0A yellow note went home yesterday detailing the events but here&#8217;s a repeat.<\/p>\n<p>Monday-Mismatch\/Sports Day \u00a0Wear clothes that don&#8217;t match or wear something to cheer on your favorite team.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday-Class Color day \u00a0 Kindergarten&#8217;s color is BLUE. \u00a0PTA is sponsoring a Science Assembly. \u00a0Thanks PTA!<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday-Hippie Day \u00a0 Students can come to school dressed like a hippie \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0It&#8217;s also\u00a0<strong>LIBRARY DAY\u00a0<\/strong>for my class. \u00a0Please have<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> your<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">student<\/span> put their Library Book in their backpack on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday_Character\/Movie Day \u00a0 \u00a0Dress like a movie or book character and we&#8217;ll enjoy a movie in our room.<\/p>\n<p>Friday-(their favorite day! ) \u00a0 Pajama\/Crazy Hair\/Birthday Bash day \u00a0Students can come to school in their PJ&#8217;s and with crazy hair. We&#8217;ll also have a birthday treat to celebrate everyone&#8217;s birthday!!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spelling Tests Begin This Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>READING-We will begin Unit 6 \u00a0OUR NEIGHBORHOOD<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll be discussing places in our neighborhood (Library, Police Station, Fire Station, School) \u00a0We&#8217;ll be discussing\u00a0<strong>main characters and details<\/strong> in stories. \u00a0Look for these when you are reading at home or even watching TV. During the middle of a story or during a commercial, ask &#8220;Who is the main character in this show? \u00a0What is the problem in the show? \u00a0How was the problem solved? \u00a0What were 3 details in the story\/show?&#8221; \u00a0Get them thinking!<\/p>\n<p>LETTER- \u00a0<strong>H \u00a0h<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WORD- <b>Are \u00a0 are<\/b><\/p>\n<p>SPELLING-Here are the spelling words for this week. \u00a0Spelling Tests will be on Fridays (usually \ud83d\ude42 )<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll work with the &#8220;at&#8221; family. \u00a0We&#8217;ll have known words (words we&#8217;ve had previously from first semester) and new weekly words. \u00a0So, this Friday&#8217;s words are: \u00a0\u00a0<strong>cat \u00a0mat \u00a0fat \u00a0 can \u00a0 I \u00a0 are<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WRITING-We&#8217;ll be writing\u00a0<strong>dialogue.<\/strong> \u00a0Can you believe it&#8230;writing with\u00a0<strong>dialogue\u00a0<\/strong>in Kindergarten??!!<\/p>\n<p>SOCIAL STUDIES-Students will work in groups to create a map of a town. \u00a0They will be using these maps the following week for their writing.<\/p>\n<p>MATH-Graphing using Tally marks, pictures, etc. \u00a0How do we read the graph? \u00a0What shall we title the graph (because all graphs have titles!)<\/p>\n<p>Next week we&#8217;ll work with money. \u00a0Get your coins ready!<\/p>\n<p>We are entering the second semester of Kindergarten. \u00a0Expectations will be stepped up. \u00a0Keep the reading, writing, math, discussions, thinking, problem solving, going at home.<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy your weekend!<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have a busy week coming up! \u00a0Please make sure your child is well fed, well rested, and here at school.
