{"id":901,"date":"2015-01-11T18:59:26","date_gmt":"2015-01-11T23:59:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=901"},"modified":"2015-01-11T18:59:26","modified_gmt":"2015-01-11T23:59:26","slug":"week-of-january-12-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2015\/01\/11\/week-of-january-12-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of January 12, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re closing in on the end of the first semester of this school year. \u00a0Time sure flies!<\/p>\n<p>READING-We will continue with week 2 of our\u00a0Unit on\u00a0<strong>Animals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s theme is\u00a0<strong>Animals All Around.<\/strong> \u00a0We will read a non-fiction book about animal babies and we&#8217;ll compare animal babies and adult babies.<\/p>\n<p>Letter-<strong>F \u00a0f<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Word-<b>play<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Remember to review the previous words and letters! \u00a0<strong>C \u00a0c \u00a0O o \u00a0F \u00a0f \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 is \u00a0have \u00a0 to \u00a0go \u00a0play<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WRITING-We will use the information from our non-fiction books to write information about an animal. \u00a0We will also be classifying and categorizing animals.<\/p>\n<p>For example, what is an animal that could go in a group with a bear and a panda?<\/p>\n<p>Why would a bear, panda, and _______ be in the same group? \u00a0(They all have fur. \u00a0or \u00a0They all climb trees.)<\/p>\n<p>What could be in a group with a bald eagle and a parakeet? \u00a0 Why would they be in the same group?(They all have beaks. \u00a0or They have feathers.)<\/p>\n<p>MATH-Patterns with Pattern Blocks \u00a0 \u00a0 Calculators!! \u00a0 Fun time!<\/p>\n<p>JOURNALS-Students are expected to write every day in their Journals. \u00a0Sometimes I give them a topic and other times they can choose their topic. \u00a0To be a good reader, one needs to read. \u00a0The same is true for writing. \u00a0Students need to write every day. \u00a0Have them write at home too. \u00a0Grocery lists, letter to Grandma, thank you note to Aunt\/Uncle for a gift, a letter to a pet \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>SPELLING-We will be having weekly Spelling Tests beginning \u00a0next week. \u00a0Since &#8220;<strong>at&#8221;<\/strong> \u00a0chunk was introduced last Sept., I will begin with\u00a0<strong>&#8220;at&#8221;<\/strong> chunk word family. \u00a0ie. b<strong>at \u00a0<\/strong>h<strong>at \u00a0<\/strong>m<strong>at<\/strong> \u00a0 \u00a0 I will give the students 3-5 words from the <strong>at<\/strong> family. \u00a0They also will be tested on the weekly words (<strong>play<\/strong>) and previous weeks&#8217; words (<strong>is \u00a0 have \u00a0go \u00a0to)\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SCIENCE-We&#8217;ll be observing animal characteristics. \u00a0We also will work with the 3 states of matter. (Pretty advanced for Kindergarten, right?)<\/p>\n<p>SOCIAL STUDIES-We will work with personal timelines, both daily timelines and growth\/life timelines.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>WEDNESDAY-LATE START \u00a0 \u00a0I will be taking Wednesday&#8217;s lunch count on Tuesday, so remember to check the menu for those buying lunch.<\/p>\n<p>I am so glad to be back. \u00a0I missed the kids. \u00a0Thanks for your support at home.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n<p>P.S. I received some Christmas gifts without a card so I don&#8217;t know who to thank. \u00a0One is a gift set of Adrienne Vittadini lotion, soap, and a white tray. \u00a0Another gift was a plate of homemade cookies. \u00a0Another was a Lavender Gift Set. \u00a0Help??<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your kindness and generosity. \u00a0Mrs. Balaka brought home my books, cards from the kids, and your gifts. \u00a0Since my husband was in the hospital through Christmas and New Year&#8217;s, it was a different Christmas for us. \u00a0In fact, he was unconscious most of those days. \u00a0He didn&#8217;t even know Christmas had come and gone and that it was a New Year. \u00a0So, it was lovely to have something to do during those quiet nights at home. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re closing in on the end of the first semester of this school year. \u00a0Time sure flies!
