Boy, have we been busy in here!<\/p>\n

First, we had fun last Friday in our Halloween costumes. \u00a0Sorry the cold rain came that night but I hope you had fun anyway.<\/p>\n

I am so impressed with the students taking it upon themselves to write a book at home–all on their own! \u00a0WOW!<\/p>\n

Great job Leo. \u00a0Thanks for sharing your story. \u00a0It was interesting to read what happened when the boy’s family climbed the tree. \u00a0They sure did travel!<\/p>\n

Yesterday we spent all afternoon doing math and science. \u00a0First we used magnifying glasses to check out some pumpkins. \u00a0We sure found some interesting features when we took close looks. \u00a0Then we predicted which pumpkin would have more seeds…Pumpkin A \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>or\u00a0 \u00a0 Pumpkin B. \u00a0<\/strong>We entered our\u00a0Predictions\u00a0<\/strong> in our Science Journal. \u00a0Then we cut open the pumpkins and dug out the seeds. \u00a0Take a look.\"ps2\"<\/a>\"ps1\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I know I didn’t get everyone-I was busy helping to keep the seeds\/pulp on the table and washing hands. \u00a0They sure enjoyed emptying those pumpkins.<\/p>\n

Next we entered our data findings into our Science Journal.<\/p>\n

I predict… \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 I learned…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Today we spent the entire morning reading, predicting, discussing the story “The Little Red Hen.”<\/b> \u00a0(It starts with planting a “seed”–get the connection? \u00a0The kids did.) \u00a0Then we identified and made the characters. \u00a0Next we wrote\u00a0verbs<\/strong> (action words) that described what the hen was doing in the story. \u00a0(Plant, cut, grind, bake) \u00a0They cut out the characters and verbs and can retell the story. \u00a0Ask your student to retell the story to you.<\/p>\n

This afternoon we spent with Math and Science again. \u00a0First we\u00a0predicted<\/strong> if pumpkins would sink or float. \u00a0We tallied our responses.\"graph2\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We entered our\u00a0predictions\u00a0<\/strong>in our Science Journals. \u00a0Back to the table to perform the experiment!!<\/p>\n

Boy, were we surprised!! \u00a0Pumpkins\u00a0float!!\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0(You should have heard the squeals of surprise!)<\/p>\n

Next we tried paper clips. \u00a0Sink? \u00a0Float?<\/strong><\/p>\n

We were confused…pumpkins are heavier that paper clips and yet pumpkins float and paper clips sink? \u00a0Hmmm<\/p>\n

I wonder what we’ll discover tomorrow?<\/p>\n
