{"id":76,"date":"2013-10-06T21:34:02","date_gmt":"2013-10-07T01:34:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=76"},"modified":"2013-10-06T21:34:02","modified_gmt":"2013-10-07T01:34:02","slug":"week-of-october-7-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2013\/10\/06\/week-of-october-7-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of October 7, 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We finish up our unit on Families. \u00a0We will continue talking and writing about our families, what we do with our family, how our \u00a0families are the same\/different, how families can change. \u00a0We&#8217;ll be comparing texts that we&#8217;ll read this week. \u00a0We&#8217;ll look for clues in our stories to help us with\u00a0<strong>predictions.<\/strong>\u00a0 Using predicting skills makes reading more accurate and helps with comprehension. \u00a0When you read with your child at home, stop occasionally and\u00a0<strong>predict<\/strong> what might come next in the story. \u00a0Why might that happen? \u00a0What were the clues that lead you to that\u00a0<strong>prediction?<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In finishing our Unit on Families, we will review:<\/p>\n<p>M \u00a0m \u00a0 \u00a0A \u00a0a<\/p>\n<p>I \u00a0Can \u00a0can \u00a0We \u00a0we \u00a0The \u00a0the<\/p>\n<p>Review these words and letters (and sounds) with your child. \u00a0Have them write them, creating mastery of the words. \u00a0Make a game of finding words that start with\u00a0<strong>m\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>a.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>FYI&#8230;<\/strong>Each reading unit is divided into 3 weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Week 1-introduce a letter\/sound \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0M \u00a0m<\/p>\n<p>-introduce a new word (or two) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 We \u00a0 we<\/p>\n<p>-introduce a writing focus \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 labels<\/p>\n<p>Week 2-introduce a different letter\/sound \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0A \u00a0 a<\/p>\n<p>-introduce a different word (or two) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0The \u00a0 the<\/p>\n<p>-introduce a different writing focus \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0lists<\/p>\n<p>Week 3-review letters\/sounds and words \u00a0and writing from Weeks 1 &amp; 2<\/p>\n<p>I also add my own writing focus each week. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>We will continue with READ TO SELF and READ TO SOMEONE. \u00a0They are really doing very well with these ways to read. \u00a0Through these reading opportunities they are developing reading stamina. \u00a0Last Friday they read for 15 minutes all by themselves! \u00a0Excellent stamina for such young readers and so early in the school year. \u00a0Good job Kindergarteners!<\/p>\n<p>Science-We continue to focus on Our Earth, Our Home.
