We finish up our unit on Families. \u00a0We will continue talking and writing about our families, what we do with our family, how our \u00a0families are the same\/different, how families can change. \u00a0We’ll be comparing texts that we’ll read this week. \u00a0We’ll look for clues in our stories to help us with\u00a0predictions.<\/strong>\u00a0 Using predicting skills makes reading more accurate and helps with comprehension. \u00a0When you read with your child at home, stop occasionally and\u00a0predict<\/strong> what might come next in the story. \u00a0Why might that happen? \u00a0What were the clues that lead you to that\u00a0prediction?<\/strong>

In finishing our Unit on Families, we will review:<\/p>\n

Review these words and letters (and sounds) with your child. \u00a0Have them write them, creating mastery of the words. \u00a0Make a game of finding words that start with\u00a0m\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0a.<\/strong><\/p>\n

I also add my own writing focus each week. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

We will continue with READ TO SELF and READ TO SOMEONE. \u00a0They are really doing very well with these ways to read. \u00a0Through these reading opportunities they are developing reading stamina. \u00a0Last Friday they read for 15 minutes all by themselves! \u00a0Excellent stamina for such young readers and so early in the school year. \u00a0Good job Kindergarteners!<\/p>\n

Science-We continue to focus on Our Earth, Our Home. Last week we gathered rocks for a “Rock Museum.” \u00a0They enjoyed examining the rocks with magnifying glasses. \u00a0We are being Scientists! \u00a0 Isabella brought in an excellent book about ways that we can help keep our Earth safe. \u00a0Thanks for sharing your book Isabella!<\/p>\n

Social Studies-I am connecting our reading unit about Families with our Social Studies Unit about ourselves and our families. \u00a0It’s a “good fit,” just like books that we choose to read.<\/p>\n

Math-We will continue with patterns, both in the classroom and outside! \u00a0Look for patterns in your house too. \u00a0We also will be practicing the correct ways to form numbers and play some counting games. \u00a0 They always enjoy the games-they are a fun way to learn.<\/p>\n

Mrs. Balestrieri (Madilyn’s mom) will be my head Homeroom Parent. \u00a0Mrs. Bronson (Natalia’s mom) is counting our boxtops. \u00a0Thanks to all of my parents who have spoken to me about helping. \u00a0I’ve got ALL of your names and will contact you as needs arise.<\/p>\n

Another busy week in Kindergarten and we are having so much fun!<\/p>\n
