{"id":64,"date":"2013-09-29T22:30:17","date_gmt":"2013-09-30T02:30:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=64"},"modified":"2013-09-29T22:30:17","modified_gmt":"2013-09-30T02:30:17","slug":"september-30-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2013\/09\/29\/september-30-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"September 30, 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Can you believe that we are already at the end of September! \u00a0Wow!<\/p>\n<p>Here is what&#8217;s coming up this week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>We will continue with week 2 of Unit 1 called Families Get Together. \u00a0Our letter this week is &#8220;A a&#8221; and our word is &#8220;The \u00a0the.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>(Last week&#8217;s letter was &#8220;M \u00a0m&#8221; and the word was &#8220;We \u00a0we.&#8221;) \u00a0Putting last week&#8217;s letter of M with this week&#8217;s letter of &#8220;A,&#8221; we have<\/p>\n<p>a new word &#8220;am.&#8221; \u00a0Look for writing to come home with these words on it.<\/p>\n<p>Last week we had a district writing prompt. \u00a0The students had to write to a prompt and I graded it according to our 6 + 1 rubric.<\/p>\n<p>The students will have more of these writing prompts as we progress through the year. \u00a0Last week&#8217;s writing gave a baseline for each student&#8217;s writing level.<\/p>\n<p>READING-I have accessed all students reading levels and each are in a reading group. \u00a0I will be teaching different reading strategies to each group. \u00a0The strategies are part of our<\/p>\n<p>CAFE Menu. \u00a0CAFE stands for:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">C<\/span>omprehension \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A<\/span>ccuracy \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">F<\/span>luency \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">E<\/span>xpanding Vocabulary<\/p>\n<p>We also will be discussing NON-FICTION writing. \u00a0They already know about FICTION \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our WORK TIME will include sentences with our words\u00a0<strong>I \u00a0Can \u00a0We \u00a0The.<\/strong> \u00a0 Have your child spell and write these words by themselves. \u00a0Have them give you a sentence using each word. \u00a0Make sure they give you a complete sentence&#8230;we&#8217;re practicing speaking in complete sentences. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WRITING-Our writing focus will be on writing\u00a0<strong>lists.<\/strong> \u00a0Last week&#8217;s writing focused on\u00a0<strong>labels.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 Mini-lesson will be writing the letters correctly. \u00a0Remember, NO letter starts at the bottom of the line. \u00a0All letters begin at either the top line or the middle line.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MATH-Number Awareness \u00a0Where do we find numbers? \u00a0We also will discuss same\/different, position words, we&#8217;ll make patterns with blocks &amp; bears, and we&#8217;ll play a game.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I sent home a Scholastic Book Order form. \u00a0Although we just had the Book Fair, I saw some Good Fit Books in the order choices and I wanted to make them available to you.<\/p>\n<p>I will send home an order form each month. \u00a0Ordering is optional! \u00a0If you choose to order, please return the completed order form with a check for the total. \u00a0NO CASH, please. \u00a0Make out checks to Scholastic Books.<\/p>\n<p>A special thanks to Trent&#8217;s mom for some really fun, hands-on science things that she shared with us! \u00a0The items went along with our Science and Reading Unit about our 5 Senses.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks Trent and Mom!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We also celebrated Zahraa&#8217;s birthday last Friday! \u00a0Happy Birthday Zahraa. \u00a0We&#8217;ve had 3 birthdays already this year&#8230;Natalie, Fatimah, and Zahraa. \u00a03 new 5 year-olds \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Can you believe that we are already at the end of September! \u00a0Wow!
