{"id":574,"date":"2014-05-19T16:13:45","date_gmt":"2014-05-19T20:13:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=574"},"modified":"2014-05-19T16:13:45","modified_gmt":"2014-05-19T20:13:45","slug":"week-of-may-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2014\/05\/19\/week-of-may-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of May 19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another week is upon us! \u00a0I will continue with District Assessments. \u00a0Math Assessments, Writing and most of Reading Assessments are finished. \u00a0Today I started Social Studies.<\/p>\n<p>READING-We will finish our last reading unit&#8230;&#8221;Let&#8217;s Count Down!&#8221; \u00a0We will read a counting down story about Turtles in a Pond. \u00a0Lots of math and science in it. \u00a0Today we compared toads (from last week) and worms. \u00a0It is amazing how many things they could find in common with toads and worms.<\/p>\n<p>SCIENCE-Speaking of worms, today Jason brought in 6 worms that he and his family found. \u00a0They created a great habitat for the worms. \u00a0Today I had small groups check out the worms. \u00a0We put them on paper towels and dropped a few drops of water on them. \u00a0Then we observed how they moved and they recorded their observations in their Science Journal. I hope to finish getting the remaining groups through tomorrow. \u00a0We are also making a Pond Life Mural (to compliment our Reading Unit).<\/p>\n<p>WRITING-Lots of writing on every subject! \u00a0We are reviewing the words\u00a0<strong>with, my, me, where, has,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>look. \u00a0<\/strong>We will be making our own count down book (to go along with our reading unit.)<\/p>\n<p>SOCIAL STUDIES-On Thursday I will make a flag with them.<\/p>\n<p>MATH-We will start some number scrolls and play several games. \u00a0FUN!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Today I am sending home an Application for a Dearborn Library Card. \u00a0I went to the Centennial Library last week and got the applications. \u00a0A parent is needed to accompany the student to the library. \u00a0This is a wonderful opportunity for Dearborn residents and the timing is perfect for summer reading! \u00a0I hope you take advantage of this opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>May 23-26 \u00a0Memorial Day \u00a0No School<\/p>\n<p>June 6 \u00a0Donuts With Dad 9:00 am<\/p>\n<p>June 9 \u00a0Field Day for Howard Students \u00a0 This annual event is sponsored by our PTA. \u00a0A day of fun activities for our students. Students will need to wear gym shoes because they&#8217;ll be outside on the grass and running, playing games.
