{"id":439,"date":"2014-04-07T14:34:31","date_gmt":"2014-04-07T18:34:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=439"},"modified":"2014-04-07T14:34:31","modified_gmt":"2014-04-07T18:34:31","slug":"week-of-april-7-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2014\/04\/07\/week-of-april-7-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of April 7, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another busy week in Kindergarten!<\/p>\n<p>READING-We will begin Unit 9 AMAZING CREATURES. \u00a0This week&#8217;s theme is\u00a0<strong>Interesting Insects.<\/strong>\u00a0 Today I read them an informational book about\u00a0<strong>Beetles.<\/strong> \u00a0Before we heard the story, we thought of some questions about\u00a0<strong>Beetles.<\/strong> \u00a0We were surprised at how many of our questions were answered in the text. \u00a0Thinking of some questions <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">before<\/span> reading the text really helped us focus our reading! What a good reading strategy we learned.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s letters&#8230;<strong>&#8220;G \u00a0g \u00a0W \u00a0w.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s words are &#8220;<strong>He he \u00a0She \u00a0she.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will be making WORD WEBS to help with writing. \u00a0On Thursday I will read a fable about an ant and a grasshopper.<\/p>\n<p>WRITING-We will be writing <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Questions and Answers<\/span>. \u00a0For example,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How many legs does a beetle have?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A beetle has 6 legs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As always,\u00a0Wednesday we will Prewrite, Thursday-Revise and Edit, and Friday we will Publish our writing.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday we will compare 3 texts that we will have read this week. \u00a0We did this last week and they did a great jobs with comparing 3 texts!!<\/p>\n<p>MATH-We will continue with story problems, practicing with tens and ones blocks, \u00a0and time. (hour and half hour) \u00a0we also will play an addition game with dice. \u00a0Tomorrow we will make some 3-D shapes with toothpicks and marshmallows. \u00a0Feel free to make some shapes at home and sent them in for all to see.<\/p>\n<p>SCIENCE-Potato watching and recording data continues \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8230;Wednesday-LATE START<\/p>\n<p>Thursday is Literacy Night. \u00a0This is a family event-come join in the fun! \u00a0There will be activities from which to choose, each activity lasting 15 minutes. \u00a0You will receive a card as you arrive at school. \u00a0Then choose your activity and your card will be punched for that activity. \u00a0Mrs. Fitzpatrick and I will be in my room making Pete the Cat Bookmarks. \u00a0Other activities include paper bag puppets, bingo, readers theater, and others! \u00a0I hope to see you here on Thursday night!<\/p>\n<p>Our student Council is having a Returnable bottle\/can Collection Drive this week. \u00a0The money that we collect from returning bottles will be used to buy flowers to beautify our Howard School grounds. \u00a0We will keep a class tally. \u00a0I wonder how many bottles we will collect?? \u00a0Thanks for your participation.<\/p>\n<p>My Kindergarteners are really taking off with their reading and writing! \u00a0It is such a joy to watch and listen to these fluent, confident readers! \u00a0Keep up you support at home. \u00a0I appreciate it.<\/p>\n<p>Have a good week.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another busy week in Kindergarten!
