{"id":38,"date":"2013-09-12T18:38:54","date_gmt":"2013-09-12T22:38:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=38"},"modified":"2013-09-12T18:38:54","modified_gmt":"2013-09-12T22:38:54","slug":"september-12-2013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2013\/09\/12\/september-12-2013\/","title":{"rendered":"September 12, 2013"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yeah&#8230;our blogs are finally back up! \u00a0It was down all weekend and I had taken pictures that I wanted to post. \u00a0I will try to post them this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>We are in Week 2 of our 3 weeks about We Are Special. \u00a0You may have noticed papers coming home with words on them about:<\/p>\n<p>-things our hands can do<\/p>\n<p>-things our nose can do<\/p>\n<p>-things our feet can do<\/p>\n<p>We also read 2 books and compared the texts. Wow! \u00a0We read\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Jasper\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Curious George Goes to School<\/span>. <\/strong> We found :<\/p>\n<p>-Both stories are about monkeys<\/p>\n<p>-Both stories have a monkey who doesn&#8217;t follow directions and gets into trouble<\/p>\n<p>-Both stories have words<\/p>\n<p>-Both stories have pictures<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing-<\/strong>Check out the writing going on in here! \u00a0Lots of watching, listening, \u00a0following directions, and trying! \u00a0I can see improvement in just a few days. \u00a0Way to go Kindergarteners!<\/p>\n<p>This week we began our Daily Five with\u00a0<strong>Read To Self.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0We made a chart that tells what\u00a0<strong>Read to Self<\/strong> should look like. \u00a0We will be working with these steps:<\/p>\n<p>1. Find our spot and stay there<\/p>\n<p>2. Eyes on our book<\/p>\n<p>3. Keep on reading<\/p>\n<p>As we read, we will be building stamina. Building stamina will help us become strong readers. \u00a0Today we read for 8 minutes!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math<\/strong>-We jumped right in with writing numbers and \u00a0making connections between objects and numbers. \u00a0Our daily Calendar Time is loaded with math. \u00a0We figure out the <b>date<\/b>. \u00a0We have a <strong>100&#8217;s chart<\/strong>\u00a0on which we are counting the days we are in school. \u00a0We also have a <strong>Place Value Chart<\/strong>\u00a0(ones, tens, hundreds) into which we add a straw for each day that we are here. \u00a0Lastly, we have a\u00a0<strong>Money Chart<\/strong> where we add a penny for each day in attendance. \u00a0Since today is day 8. we have already made a trade of 5 pennies for 1 nickel (and 3 more pennies).<\/p>\n<p>Of course, our daily\u00a0<strong>Lunch Count<\/strong> provides us with daily story problems and number sentences. \u00a0Today we had 9 buying pizza and 2 buying stuffed sandwich. \u00a0So, 9 + 2 = 11. \u00a0We counted on from 9 and got 11 very quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Our words this week are\u00a0<strong>I\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>can. \u00a0<\/strong>We have been spelling and writing these words. \u00a0Practice with your child.<\/p>\n<p>Students should also be writing their name-<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>with\u00a0only 1 capital letter at the beginning.<\/strong> \u00a0<\/span> All other letters are lower case.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>MONDAY 9\/16 -PICTURE DAY Payment envelopes were sent home last week. \u00a0Bring them in next Monday, along with your smile \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>WEDNESDAY 9\/18-PEACE ASSEMBLY at 2:30<\/p>\n<p>THURSDAY 9\/17 OPEN HOUSE 6:00-8:00PM you will have a chance to sign up for a conference at that time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are learning so many things in Kindergarten!<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy the cooler temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yeah&#8230;our blogs are finally back up! \u00a0It was down all weekend and I had taken pictures that I wanted to post. \u00a0I will try to post them this weekend.
