{"id":345,"date":"2014-03-09T21:31:39","date_gmt":"2014-03-10T01:31:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=345"},"modified":"2014-03-09T21:31:39","modified_gmt":"2014-03-10T01:31:39","slug":"week-of-march-10-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2014\/03\/09\/week-of-march-10-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of March 10, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>March is reading Month is rolling along. \u00a0I have a sign up schedule available for parents to come in and read to our class. \u00a0Time slots are 9:00-9:15 or 3:00-3:15. \u00a0Please stop in and sign up. \u00a0Then choose a book from home (perhaps a favorite of your child&#8217;s books) and we&#8217;ll enjoy your story.<\/p>\n<p>To encourage reading, Howard students are participating in a required number of minutes each week for reading. \u00a0K-2 are required to read for 120 minutes each week. \u00a0As students complete the required number of minutes each week, I will place a &#8220;paw print&#8221; (to go with our &#8220;WILD ABOUT READING&#8221; THEME) \u00a0on a book posted outside my room. \u00a0I will be using our READ TO SELF\/READ TO SOMEONE time for the required reading minutes. \u00a0Of course, I&#8217;m sure you will continue with daily reading at home. \u00a0WOW-lots of reading!<\/p>\n<p>Reminders-Wednesday is LATE START. \u00a0Check the lunch menu on Tuesday because I will be taking lunch count on Tuesday for both Tuesday and Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday is LIBRARY DAY. \u00a0Tuesday night have <strong>your child<\/strong>\u00a0pack the backpack for Wednesday. \u00a0Have\u00a0<strong>them\u00a0<\/strong>put in their Library Book, shoes, any homework, \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Journal, \u00a0etc. \u00a0They can handle the responsibility and it helps them with Organizational Skills.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s our week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>READING-Week 3 of Unit 7 \u00a0 &#8220;How Weather Affects us&#8221; is our theme. \u00a0We will discuss characters and their actions (verbs) in stories. \u00a0We will review our letters and words for this unit-<strong>what \u00a0and \u00a0this \u00a0do \u00a0for \u00a0you \u00a0E e \u00a0B b \u00a0L l.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WRITING-We will review chunks\u00a0<strong>ed \u00a0 ad \u00a0am \u00a0an \u00a0ap \u00a0at \u00a0<\/strong>As you read with your child, have them find these words and chunks in words. \u00a0Reading practice like this helps with Accuracy and Fluency, which are important components of reading. \u00a0We will also be writing sentences with several\u00a0<em>action<\/em> (verbs) in them. \u00a0Of course we will compare texts (stories) that we read during the week. \u00a0I&#8217;m always checking and assessing Comprehension when we retell stories, \u00a0 By the way, \u00a0last Friday I taught them about\u00a0<strong>syllables<\/strong> and that each\u00a0<strong>syllable\u00a0<\/strong>has a\u00a0<strong>vowel<\/strong> in it. \u00a0We checked it out all day. \u00a0Pretty awesome concept for 5-6 year olds!!<\/p>\n<p>MATH &amp; SCIENCE-We will be making a\u00a0<strong>graph<\/strong> about weather and also taking a\u00a0<strong>survey. \u00a0<\/strong>We&#8217;ll also be using the calculators. \u00a0 We&#8217;ll be doing some skip counting by 2&#8217;s. \u00a0They really enjoy those calculators! \u00a0Number Families and Story Problems using\u00a0<em>Subtraction<\/em> will be in this week&#8217;s Math. \u00a0They know to start with the BIGGEST NUMBER when you subttract. \u00a0They are also getting quite comfortable with fact families, without using fingers. \u00a0 They don&#8217;t even get confused with 0 as one of the 3 numbers in the family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(4,6,10) \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 (0,7,7)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>4+6=10 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 7+0=7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>6+4=10 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 0+7=7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>10-6=4 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a07-0=7<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SOCIAL STUDIES-We will continue with our unit &#8220;WHO AM I?&#8217; \u00a0 We&#8217;ll explore a map and a globe. \u00a0(I&#8217;ll work in temperature with that too.) \u00a0We&#8217;ll check out our flag of THE UNITES STATES OF AMERICA. \u00a0Of course, we begin each morning with The Pledge of Allegiance and the Howard School Pledge.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m looking forward to another week of learning, growing, and having a great time together!<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n<p><strong>10-4=6 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 7-7=0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MATH<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March is reading Month is rolling along. \u00a0I have a sign up schedule available for parents to come in and read to our class. \u00a0Time slots are 9:00-9:15 or 3:00-3:15. \u00a0Please stop in and sign up. \u00a0Then choose a book from home (perhaps a favorite of your child&#8217;s books) and we&#8217;ll enjoy your story.
