{"id":2819,"date":"2019-03-15T14:25:04","date_gmt":"2019-03-15T18:25:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=2819"},"modified":"2019-03-15T14:25:04","modified_gmt":"2019-03-15T18:25:04","slug":"week-of-march-18-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2019\/03\/15\/week-of-march-18-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of March 18, 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bring on Spring!!\u00a0 We are enjoying the warmer temperatures.\u00a0 Thank you for still having your child wear boots to school.\u00a0 Rain\u00a0 and melting snow make great mud, which gets tracked into the room.\u00a0 When the ground is drier, boots can be left at home.\u00a0 Thanks!<\/p>\n<p>SPELLING-<strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>We will focus on the\u00a0<strong>it<\/strong> chunk.\u00a0\u00a0<strong> hit\u00a0 kit\u00a0 pit\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>sit\u00a0 fit\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0him\u00a0 his\u00a0 little<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Have your child practice\u00a0<strong>writing\u00a0<\/strong> the words and not just spell them back to you.\u00a0 I give them time every day to practice their words with their partner.\u00a0 I can hear them spelling the words correctly, but when they write the words, they misspell the words.<\/p>\n<p>WRITING-\u00a0<strong>Narrative Writing<\/strong>\u00a0 ( a story )\u00a0 Our setting will be at the park.\u00a0 Discuss some scenarios with your child.\u00a0 Stories have a\u00a0<strong>beginning, middle and end.<\/strong>\u00a0 Practice making up stories, identify the\u00a0<strong><em>beginning, middle, and ending\u00a0<\/em><\/strong> of your stories.\u00a0 Not every story needs to be written down so talk through a story.\u00a0 Remember the 4 elements of a story&#8230;<strong>characters, setting, plot, solution.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MATH-Math packets are due every Monday.\u00a0 Home on Monday, returned on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll be working with\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Decomposition of 9 and 10 into number pairs.<\/span>\u00a0 &#8220;What 2 numbers make up 10?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Extend it&#8230;&#8221;What 3 numbers make up 10?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>SCIENCE-We have begun putting potatoes in water.\u00a0 My little Scientists are very focused on their potato and saying,&#8221;I don&#8217;t see any change yet!&#8221;\u00a0 Still time on Monday to send in a potato.\u00a0 Thanks<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your participation with reading to our class.\u00a0 I have had former students read and today we had some of DHS&#8217;s Football team players come in and read.\u00a0 We had a good discussion as to why reading, completing assignment handing them in on time, etc is so important.\u00a0 Great to see former students doing so well and be good role models to my Kindergarteners.\u00a0 Proud of them\u00a0 AND my kids were SO WELL behaved.\u00a0 Love them!<\/p>\n<p>Have a good weekend and &#8220;Happy St. Patrick&#8217;s Day!&#8221;\u00a0 since my grandparents came stringht from Ireland, my family will be celebrating all weekend.\u00a0 (The Irish always get a jump start on &#8220;the holiday&#8221; and start celebrating the day after St. Valentine&#8217;s day!)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. (McCann)\u00a0 Smith<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bring on Spring!!\u00a0 We are enjoying the warmer temperatures.\u00a0 Thank you for still having your child wear boots to school.\u00a0 Rain\u00a0 and melting snow make great mud, which gets tracked into the room.\u00a0 When the ground is drier, boots can be left at home.\u00a0 Thanks!
