{"id":276,"date":"2014-02-12T11:42:46","date_gmt":"2014-02-12T16:42:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=276"},"modified":"2014-02-12T11:42:46","modified_gmt":"2014-02-12T16:42:46","slug":"february-12-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2014\/02\/12\/february-12-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"February 12, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy Birthday Abraham Lincoln! \u00a0Today we will talk about our 16th President. \u00a0Yesterday we made Mr. Lincoln with our third grade Buddies. \u00a0I hope you enjoy him.<\/p>\n<p>READING-We wind up our unit about Neighborhoods. \u00a0We will review &#8220;H \u00a0h \u00a0D d \u00a0R r&#8221; \u00a0letters and sounds and the words &#8220;Are \u00a0are \u00a0For for \u00a0You \u00a0you.&#8221; \u00a0These words have been added to their writing\/reading word wall and the students are expected to know them. \u00a0By now, they have quite a healthy list of words that they are expected to know and they are doing very well with reading and writing those words. \u00a0We also have been working with &#8220;at&#8221; \u00a0and &#8220;an&#8221; chunks. \u00a0They should be able to read words and create rhyming words with those chunks in them. \u00a0Look for these words and chunks in your daily reading with them.<\/p>\n<p>MATH-$$$ \u00a0Since we already know the\u00a0<strong>penny\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>nickel,\u00a0<\/strong>I am adding on\u00a0<strong>dime.<\/strong> \u00a0Practice making trades at home with money. \u00a0Start slowly&#8230;&#8221;How many pennies will you give me for this nickel?&#8221; Dimes for pennies? \u00a0Pennies for 1 dime and 1 nickel?<\/p>\n<p>WRITING-Grammar!!! I am focusing on speaking and writing with correct grammar! \u00a0&#8220;My sister and I&#8230;&#8221; \u00a0(not &#8220;Me and my sister&#8230;&#8221;) \u00a0I have taught them how to figure out if they need to use <strong>I\u00a0<\/strong>or\u00a0<strong>me<\/strong>. \u00a0It takes practice. \u00a0They need to hear correctly spoken grammar in order for them to speak and write correctly themselves.<\/p>\n<p>VALENTINE&#8217;S DAY is Friday. \u00a0The students have been telling me all about writing out names on the Valentines. \u00a0They are so excited. \u00a0Today we are making a Valentine bag.<\/p>\n<p>***I told the kids today that I was going to post on my blog to you that they are becoming &#8220;<strong>awesome writers!&#8221;<\/strong> \u00a0You should have seen today&#8217;s Free Writing. \u00a0Amazing sentences and they just kept on writing until I stopped them. \u00a0Super-duper stamina!<\/p>\n<p>Have a good rest of the week. \u00a0Think Spring and have a warm (?)
